to be jetted or not???

Hey guys, I recently installed a yoshi slip on & a k&n air filter on my 01 f4i. The throttle response just isn't what I thought it might be. Could I be running too lean? & will getting the bike jetted even make a difference? Thanks...

Re: to be jetted or not???

FYI, that bike is fuel injected (F4i). You may want to look into getting a powercommander. I would say it's worth it only if you can get a custom map made.

Yep, and you'll find it's most likely too rich, down low anyway. Get it mapped. Better fuel economy, smoother throttle, more power, power made sooner, need I go on? haha

Re: to be jetted or not???

anyone know if the K&N has a smaller element on the F4i like it does on the blades? and as a result actually takes away power because it flows less air?

Re: to be jetted or not???

Trash the K&N. It actually flows too much air. Bikes are really sensitive to tuning and even if you had a custom map made the small engines are hard to get right. Put the stocker back in and you should be ok. Of course the PC will make a great improvement in rideability even if the bike was 100% stock.

Re: to be jetted or not???

CBRRob, I don't get that............ if you know what you're doing, a 600 is just as easy to map as a 1000................. easier in some respects coz they don't have as much torque, and therefore don't jump through the lower rpm sections as quickly. PLus, I thought most said on here that the K&N's were flowing less than the originals these days? Anyone tried the DNA filters? flow tests etc?

Re: to be jetted or not???

Did extensive dyno testing on my F2 with a K&N, overflow of air. Had a friends 02' Gix600 with one, flowed too much air, dead spots in the curve. Might flow less on big bikes. Just use the stocker!

Re: to be jetted or not???

Nah, you missed my point. If you map the bike on the dyno, you match the fuel with the air, do you not? So then how can you get "too much" air? I am yet to see a Jap bike that has an exhaust and filter that doesn't need fuel taken out almost everywhere................ which to me, doesn't say it's getting too much air. But anyway..............an F2 is Carb'd right? Different story. This bike is fuel injected.

Re: to be jetted or not???

Like I said, did a friends 02 Gix600, same thing too much flow. So why wouldnt we just put a filter that has the max filter area, or hell, take the filter out and trash the airbox? It dosent work, too much flow.

Re: to be jetted or not???

Yeah, maybe if it's not mapped. But if it IS mapped, and you have the right amount of fuel for the amount of air, PLEASE tell me how this will still be the case? I've run no filter on SP1's 929's 954's 600F4i's, mapped, no problemo. We're going in circles. The original question was.......... If the bike is mapped to the filter or lack there of, how is there going to be too much flow?
