| Stripped engine mount? Someone tell me it ain't so
So I go to install my frame sliders, among other things. Only right side of the bike is accessible at this point, which is fine. I grab my 10mm allen socket, put an extension and a ratchet on and try to loosen the bolt. Nothing. Put a little more oomph behind it....nothing. I check to be sure I'm going the right way...leftie - loosie, righty - tighty...check  So I get a pipe to gain more leverage and try again. Nothing. I check frame slider bolts to make sure it's not reverse thread, and it's not.  So I give it everything I've got and it finally budges. Give it a few turns, and it's not getting any easier to turn. So I stop, take a peak around, notice a pinch bolt around the outside where the motor mount bolt sinks in. Pull that bolt out and try again. Still takes an awful lot to turn the ratchet. Didn't notice it to back out at all.
At this point I'm afraid to turn it any more. If I try to tighten the bolt back up, it's a little easier to turn but not by much and it doesn't really get tighter. Someone please tell me I didn't just strip my engine mount  If I did, how do I get the bolt out(without drilling it) so I can rethread the block.
Anyone with a 600RR service manual know how tight this bolt is supposed to be? |

| Re: Stripped engine mount? Is there any chance that there is a nut on the other side of that engine mount? When I brought home my Kwak 636 and put a set of Sato sliders on it, I was somewhat surprised to find a nut on the back side of the mounting boss. Had I not felt it with my fingertips, I might have spun that doggone OEM bolt and concluded I'd stripped the threads as well. |

| Re: Stripped engine mount? Hate to tall ya Pal, but it sounds like the threads are galled. I don't know about Hondas, but are those bolts stainless?? And I'd assume the female threads are in aluminium, I assure that's the problem. But that's so common a problem, that almost nobody uses stainless and aluminium together, but it does happen.
It is also possible that it WAS overtorqued at the factory. Now that you have moved it, you have to prove that you didn't F it up.
I hope it works for ya pal, but talk to your dealer before doing anything else. |

| Re: Stripped engine mount? If you're turning 34 from one side of the bike, I don't think you've hurt a thing. That looks like the big main pin which supports the engine in the frame. The resistance you felt was the thing busting loose in there (the factories are too cheap to use a little anti-seize in places they should...at least that's been my experience).
But that's not where it looks like to me the sliders would go on anyway. I'm with l'timbre. The slider mount location has to be 26. |

I don't have a clue about the 600RR and where you'd mount a slider, but #34 looks like a main bolt with nut. Good luck...let us know what you find out.

| Re: Stripped engine mount? Ok, I couldn't take it...I rushed back home to take a look. It was #23 & #34. There's a 17mm nut back there that's nicely covered by the radiator hose, but it flexed just enough to put a wrench on it. Both frame sliders are now installed. |

Just compare it to the damage they will save. Glad things turned out okay. reminds me of when I bought my 954. It was bitterly cold (Janurary), and I started it up and didn't let it come to temp, thus fouling the plugs real bad. It took me a while to figure out what was wrong, and then after I changed the plugs it still wouldn't start. I had to stay home from work b/c it was bothering me so badly. Turns out I had the PC lead on the wrong battery terminal.
But boy was I glad/relieved when it fired up! I imagine that's sorta how you feel right now.
