LP RivNut Kit????

Anybody here ever install a Lockhart Phillips RivNut Kit for the purpose of swingarm spools/sliders? I got the kit, drilled the hole, put the RivNut in and tried to make it mushroom to fit the whole tightly with their tool (bolt and thick nut). Nothing happend when I did. What gives?

Anybody have any experience with this RivNut kit?

I looked at the www.cbrworld.net article on how to do this, but no real clues as to what I'm doing wrong. Is their a trick that I don't know about?

BTW, I'm trying to do this on a 2001 Honda F4i.

TIA!!!!

Re: LP RivNut Kit????

Okay, so I looked at the thread Adding Swingarm Spools to the 929 and have a few questions. In this step where you insert the spool/insert into the drilled hole in the second pic. My question is, do you have to push the insert all the way into the hole first with the "LP tool" (bolt and large nut) attached? Or do you leave it sticking out as the picture shows it and start cranking down on the bolt? In addition the second pic looks like the bolt is screwed in a much as possible into the insert. If that's the case then you can't tighten the bolt anymore without stripping something, either the insert or the bolt.

Obviously I'm so confused about this whole thing. Please somone clarify for me!!!

I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW TO DO THIS!!!!

Re: LP RivNut Kit????

The insert needs to be all the way in, flush with the swingarm, before you start tightening it.

Ugghhh!!!! That's what I did last night and nothing happend when started cranking down on the "LP Tool"!!!! I believe the only difference is that I threaded the "LP Tool" (bolt and nut) into the insert after putting the insert into the drilled swingarm hole, which I don't think makes a difference. Ugggghhhhh...lemme try with the tool already threaded into the insert before putting the insert into the drilled hole tonight.

Re: LP RivNut Kit????

You might be hitting something on the inside of the swingarm. Or maybe you have weak sauce in your muscles.
Did you lube the threads before you started?

Love the sauce comment!!!!

I don't think I'm hitting anything on the inside of the swingarm. 2001 CBR F4i's swingarms do not have anything in them. I believe that at least the 929 had long screws in them as part of the chain tensioning mechanism.

In terms of cranking down on the bolt to mushroom the insert. I kept cranking and nothing happend. I never felt any resistance that told me anything was happening.

I didn't lube the threads before starting, so that's something else that I'll try tonight.

Geeze, all this talk about holes and lubing leads to a whole different topic doesn't it!!!!!

Where's Stegan When you need him?

Re: LP RivNut Kit????

Well got the spool inserts installed last night on the F4i. nedro pretty much hit it on the head with the "sauce" comment. I was just being too nansy-pansy when cranking down to mushroom the insert in the hole. I just put a little elbow grease into it without worrying about hurting anything and BAM! It worked!!!! Took me all of 5 minutes to get everything done. Geeze, I feel so stupid!!!!

Thanks for the input and help guys!!!!
