'00 F4 coolant change

I don't have a shop manual for this bike and I was wondering if there is anything "special" about coolant changes that I should be aware of. I've located all the drain plugs and hoses (siphon, overflow drain) and couldn't help but notice the "inconvenient" location of the radiator fill cap. It sits directly under the ram air intake on the right side! Doh! Is access simply a matter of removing the screw that holds that scoop in the front fairing and lifting slightly on the tunnel? Will that give me enough room to fill the rad with a flexible spout funnel? Does anyone know the coolant capacity of the radiator? The overflow bottle?

Thanks for any info.

50/50 mixer distilled water and antifreeze. The shop manual says to use "pro Honda HP Coolant" or an equivalent high quality ethylene glycol antifreeze containg corrosion protection inhibitors. The most important thing is the distilled water, never use tap water. On a closed system you will get fungus build up from all the contamination in the water we drink.
To get at rad cap
  • Remove right air intake duct
  • remove left side fairing
  • Rmove rad cap
  • remove drain plug from the water pump
  • remove rad without disconnecting hoses
  • remove drain bolt on the cylinder
  • remove the reserve tank cap
  • Drain reserve tank.
  • replace all seal washers
  • You need to blee the air from the system after you fill it up

If it overheats at all, that means there's still air in the system.

Also, check that rubber gasket on the radiator cap. It can get worn from heat cycle expansions and start leaking. It happened to me bad at 50,000 miles, so I flipped it over.

to bleed the system for air bubbles...
with radiator cap off, apply quick bursts of throttle...quick revs...it'll burp any air bubbles out.
