F4i Questions Cam Chain and Shocks

Hi Guys,

I've just recently got myself a 01 f4i and wanted to ask a couple of quick Q's.
Firstly the stock cam chain tensioner. Is it as bad as so many of the stories I've heard? Should I replace it with a manual one now or wait for some kind of bad signs. It makes a tiny noise just around 5k but have been told thats pretty normal. Also keep in mind that this bike will be used for stunt riding so will get a decent work out in the red zone.

Second, the front shocks. I'd like to stiffen these up as much as possible or at least lose some of the initial dive they have under hard braking. They feel quite sloppy compared to my last bike. Anyone on here mod their stock ones? I was thinking of starting with heavier oil, then spacers or stiffer springs. Maybe I am pushing sh*t uphill and should just swap the front end for a 929 or 954??

Oh yeah, thanks in advance

People on this forum tend to frown on the stunter thing, perhaps that's the reason for the lack of response.

Haven't heard much lately about cam chain tensioner failures. They will typically make lots of noise all the time, as the tensioner just snaps in half and rattles around as the cam chain runs over it, if I understand correctly. I was just discussing the excellent front suspension on the F4 with another guy at the track last weekend. For sure, change springs, as I believe the stock ones are .74. What's your weight?

Spacer length, heavier oil, and a higher oil fill will all have effects on front end dive. You may have to do some experimentation to find what works best.

Good luck!

Thanks for the response man

Yeah I kinda gathered the big problem this site has with stunters after being here a few days. I don't get it, the suzuki places I visit have special sections set up just for those people and considering honda's are used just as much if not more for stunts, I assumed honda forums would be simillar.

Yeah the cam chain tensioner thing I've heard from quite a few people "replace it with a manual one as soon as you can" but thought I'd verify with people who owned the bikes rather then just going by rumour. My cam chain is slightly noisy just around 5000k if you blip the throttle to get slack in it. That apparantley is a normal noise on these bikes.

Yeah I'm glad you say the front end is alright. My options were to work on that or just swap a complete front end with a 929 or 954.
I'll start with some spacers and thicker oil and see how I go. Oh yeah I'm 75kg.

At least I think this would be a good address to the site.

You will find a lot of racers here, but I really don't think you're gonna find any stunters.

Thanks tThough I know about SL and have been a member there for years. I didnt come here looking for stunting buddies or to shoot the breeze talking stunts to dudes who "race"
I was hoping to use this place for technical honda specific type info. Just like I used the gixxer.com for gsxr info. Though the people there were cool and didn t care what application you wanted the knowledge for...unlike the weird phobia this place has about anything stunts Did some of the members here get beat up by a bunch of stunters once or something?? I just dont get it.
