| i'm new here whats up. i recently posted in the 1000 forum for a friend but i'm back.
i live in NYC and 2 weeks ago i was cut off by a cab and hit on to the sidewalk and plowed my ducati monster900 into a fire hydrant. the bike got most of it (its totaled) and i will be alright soon. as soon as i get the money that bastard owes me. i only had that bike for 2 months and i was loving it.
but now that i have a chance to get a new bike i was thinking about the 06 CBR600. i wanted to see if you could shed some light on the power characteristics of this bike. i really liked the low end torque of the monster but handling wise, it was lacking. how is the 6 off the line and does gearing help. i have never owned a sport bike, i have a supermoto and had the monster. |

They are just made to be wound up, and not alot down low. |

the 600rr has more HP but less torque MotorCyclist says 106.9 and 44.6. I haven't ridden one but I don't think you'll be dissappointed.

| Re: i'm new here Well, since you specified that torque was the thing you liked most about the duc, it's clear that this is a different animal altogether. Pretty much all the front line 600's need to be ridden at very high revs. The 2 exceptions that readily come to mind are the Kawi 636 and the Triumph 675, for obvious reasons.
The goods news is that they rev up really fast, and they're very agile. You see bikes all the time in your environment, which ones seem to do the best? Talk to other NYC / Boston / Chicago riders.
A literbike has more torque, but it might be frustrating to ride where you live..
Welcome to the .org.. we really don't care what you ride. |

No. I actually spell better than that, usually.
there are 1000 cc's in a liter.. therefore a literbike refers to a thousand- like the CBR1000RR, GSXR1K, R1, etc.
Roadracingworld did a comparison this month of the front line 600's and pegs the Honda at 43.2 ft-lbs at 10,450 rpm. the Kawi 636 has 47 at 11,000, the GSXR 600 has 44.3 at 11,000, the R6 has 42.9 at a CLAIMED 11,250.
The ZX14 has 113.5 ft-lbs at 7500.... |

and it has only 10 ft-lbs of torque less. will that balance it out. |

| Re: i'm new here If you want "grunt" like the Duc, stick with a V twin (RC51, SV1000). You're not going to find it in a 600, and it'll take a big I4 to get anywhere near the lowend torque you're talking about |

| Re: i'm new here The biggest difference with the engine characteristics is that you are comparing a v-twin to an inline four.
The v-twin will feel MUCH torquier down low, becuase it is. It has a lower redline and the power comes in lower. The torque on the CBR600 comes in a few thousand RPMs higher than the Monster's redline.
They are just plain different. More different than comparing apples to oranges.
Yes, you the difference in torque feel will be very noticable.
However, the difference in overall power feel, bike weight and handling will be even more noticable.
The answer to your question is just another question: Which would you prefer? |
