New member 600 F2

Hey everybody howsit, new member from Hawaii. I ride a 1994 cbr 600 F2 and I have some electrical issues. After about 30 minutes of riding my bike died out like it was out of gas but it turns out the bike was running off the battery and not producing its own electricity. The bike runs fine when it is hooked up with jumper cables to my jeep, but when I take off the positive connection the bike dies. Is this normal or does this indicate a faulty charging system. Any help would be great thanks Blake
