I Rode My '05 CBR 600 F4i From LA to New York...and back

I just finished a tour a few weeks back with 3 friends starting in Long Beach,CA.

One other guy was on an '03 CBR 600RR, the other two rode A 750 Kantana and a Yamaha F-1?? The other two guys didn't make it.

The Yamaha guy crashed in Deals Gap, NC then got too spooked to ride so he left his bike at the Greyhound station in Jackson, Tenn. and took a bus back.

The 750 Can-of-Tuna guy called it quits in Pittsburgh and ditched us and took all our tools and spare parts.

We rode up PCH to San Fran via Highway 9 (awesome!!) we hit the skyline parkway and it was hailing and snowing in Mid-July!!!!!!!!!!!

Then onto Santa Rosa and beautiful Occidental, Ca.

We went to Elko, Nevada for some highspeed desert riding. Reno for the buffets.

Then Cokesville,Wyoming. Idaho Falls, Idaho for a new rear tire, then Yellowstone and into Montana because the east exit from the park was closed.

Sturgis, SD to see the bike museum. Minnesota, Iowa, Indiana, then I rode from Dayton, Ohio to Maryland in an insane 650 mile endurance ride, I was seeing things and mumbling to myself crossing the Anapolis bridge. the others went to New york for beers, girls and fun.

We met up later in New york then rode down to Asheville, NC (Tired!!) then hit deals gap minus the Kantana dude.

We rode the Dragon, lost Mr. Yamaha in Jackson,Tenn. went to Graceland to pray to the King for divine intervention and bought a blackpowder pistol in a Bass and Hunt shop in Memphis.

Rode through rainy Arkansas, (Mosquitoes and rain, rain and mosquitoes)

Oklahoma (Awesome people!!! A gas station owner let us shoot our pistol in the back of his station)

A brief skirt through Texas.

Beautiful New Mexico then cold eastern Arizona.

My friend hit a dead Elk at night in a rain storm outside of Flagstaff. He sprained his foot and broke off his gear shift lever. We pounded an extenstion from a ratchet wrench with a mallet onto the shift mount and he rode it into LA the rest of the way like that.

We drove throgh the Mojave (in the afternoon not a good idea) and rolled into LA with 3 weeks and 8,000 plus miles under our belts and butts. I was sore for a week and my body was sore too.

The CBR 600 is an awesome bike!!! I loved it though the fuel injection cost me on the highway I felt. I had to sell it because I live overseas and already own a 954.

Thanks- Bubba

That's awesome, and I envy you.

You should expand and put all that into an "article" format, and maybe submit it here to Conq under articles. I'm sure there were some humorous 'insights' you could share with us...

Re: I Rode My '05 CBR 600 F4i From LA to New York...and back

Awesome ride, just awesome!! That is a lot of people's dream, mine included. I'd love to be able to take enough time off work (not likely) and ride out to CA and back. I'd do a loop of some sort, like ride out in the northern part of the country, through SD, MT. Then down Rt. 1 in CA, and come back through the south. It's on my wish list.

Yeah, write it up as a story with pics!

awesome, can't wait for the full story.

I'd have to get some higher bars and a some soft padding for the seat before I'd even consider riding that far.

With 8K miles what did you do for tires? I have considered an extended ride but swapping rubber in a strange land worries me.

Buddie of mine and I trailered our bikes out to Sturgis and rode from there down to Vegas and back through Colorado, got tires in Vegas and you couldn't find a nicer more helpfull group of people (for the whole trip in fact) the only real difference from Canada was the tires were cheaper. I was on a 954 and the tires were about 1/2 the price

My friend on the other CBR trailered his bike and the Kantana from Hamilton, Ontario to Calgary-then he drove the 2 bikes on the trailer with the Kantana guy
(Mouldy Marvin) to L.A. from Calgary.

I got new tires in Delaware, they didn't have anything hard (damn Honda dealerships sucked all over the whole country--come on Honda!! ) so I got Pilots which took me to LA just fine.

The other CBR dude, ( Stinky) just ran his tires bald. We wound up changing his front tire in a Walmart parking lot in front of the tire center with a mallet propping up the forks. The rear one we changed in Oklahoma at a bike shop.

Should I submit the story in a Word format or what? What about the photos?

I did something similar on my '00 929. Rode to N. Va., did a trackday with some east coast friends at Summit Point Raceway, then rode back. Covered about 7000 miles. It was a blast.

Guys sorry about the delay with the story. I just completed a 1000KM ride around Taiwan and I met this girl who rides a bike..well, you get the picture.

Plus it sucks typing with only two fingers.
(Picture a gorilla playing the piano.)

I'm going to need a moderator to edit my story because it is not very PC or family oriented in parts. I'd hate to innocently offend the more genteel set and be banned .
