Need Help with Electrical Problem

New 2005 CBR600F4i.

Has shut off three times while driving, each time the clock resets. The last time was in a corner causing the rear wheel to skip and I had to lay down teh bike.

Took it in under warranty t o the dealerhsip. They said the removed the battery & load tested. Turned out OK. Checked all fuses - OK. Tested bank angle sensor - OK. Checked grounds - OK. No codes were stored in memory. No probelms were found.

Any ideas on what is wrong? Thanks in advance.

Re: Need Help with Electrical Problem

First off ...

Now do you have anything done to the bike? Like added neon's or something like that? Removed lights and or added anything like this?

Are you doing anything special while the bike cuts out? How often has this problem happened? Same day different days?

I am not a expert here but since Honda said everything was fine and the computer has not error codes in it. Then it should be good.

But I would try and get my hands on another ECU and try that out and see if it helps. Also you might want to check the guages. I know when you unplug them you will reset the clock and the bike will not run with out them ..

Re: Need Help with Electrical Problem

Thanks for the welcome and for the tips. That all sounds promising.

Nothing has been added to the bike. It is still stock. It has cut out and died three times. The first time was in the driveway, moving slowly. It started right back up. The second time was pulling into an apartment complex. Again, it was slow and so no harm, but it wasn't as if the bike was going over anything bumpy. The third time it died while turning left in a city street. That time, since it was leaning a bit, I laid it on its side. Each scenario was a bit different - no rhyme or reason really.

I will look into the gauges and the other connections. If anyone thinks of anything else or has had a similar experience, I would appreciate the wisdom.

Re: Need Help with Electrical Problem

2 friends had similar situations last year (01 F4i and 05 GSXR600).
they both cut out a few times on them last year fo no reason. even on the highway a couple of times, once we had to pull over because it (gsxr) wouldn't start back up for a few minutes. we never found any problems with either bike. I haven't ridden with either of them too much this year but haven't heard of the issue coming back.

Re: Need Help with Electrical Problem

I'd suspect the battery since it's resetting the clock when it quits. Replace it and check to make sure your connections (especialy ground) are clean and tight. Don't assume your dealer checked everything...
