| witch damper do you like I'm going to order a damper real soon but I just wanted to see what everyone is using and what they think about it. The scotts one seems to have the best overal review. I also have a buddie that has a scotts and says it works real well but I dont know anyone else using one. Thanks... |

| Re: witch damper do you like why do you need one? are you a track rider or street? i wouldn't think a street rider would really need one. I ride on the track alot and have yet to see a need for one yet. i guess it is one of those oh **** i wish i would have bought one type of things?
I have heard the scotts is a good product!

Get an actual Ohlins, Hyperpro, Sprint, WP, etc. piston type damper. |

I seem to remember Dorothy and the Scarecrow used that to great effect, but I think they've since outlawed it in the Flying Monkey Race series.
The truth is that ANY damper is better than none. You can recover much of the cost of a premium one if you re-sell it separately.
I couldn't fit a piston type on my SV with the fork modifications and the Scott's rotary does the job. I think it activates a bit less quickly than a piston type. |

| Re: witch damper do you like I have an '05 600rr and I use a scotts rotary dampener (the kind that is mounted in the triple clamp). It seems to do the trick. I have needed it a couple times (grattan turn 12 or 11b at about 95... anyone feel me on that one?) Some street guys like them for doing wheelies or stoppies. I would recommed whatever you get to have it mounted somewhere inside the bike where it is protected. Some piston types mount on the outside of the frame...that's a good place for it to get bent or damaged...even if the bike tips over in you garage |

Repaeater....yeah it's kind of like that. I've the bike shake on me a few times and I really didnt like that feeling so I think it will help my ride better. I'll report a small read when I get home. I never felt the need for one up until a couple months ago when I had a little headshake on 2 different occassions. after the second one which was a little more than a little but not quite a huge tankslapper I said screw the cost and ordered an Ohlins. worth every penny.

its one of those things that when you do need it, you will be damn glad you have it. otherwise it is a passive tool that you shouldn't actually feel under normal circumstances.
Even if you wouldn't have crashed anyways .. it may save you from having to clean out your underwear... |

If Scott's doesn't use this as their new ad campaign, they're stupid. |

Thanks | Kyle Racing Engines for an Ohlins. call them for the price though. I got it for about $60 cheaper than anywhere else I could find. and it was drop shipped from Ohlins and got here in like 3 or 4 days.

Thanks |
Many of the internet sales sites carry them. One of our sponsors, Cal-Sportbike, was very helpful in getting my track bike set up with a Scott's in an unusual application (SV with GSXR forks) at a very fair price.
You can do a search search for which stores have a good reputation around here. |

| Re: witch damper do you like kneedraggers.com actually has fairly standard rates on the scotts ... at least from what i've seen.
also, if you plan to do any type of track riding, I would go with something top mounted. The piston type that mount on a fork leg are very easily damaged, even if you just drop the bike from a stand still. the rotary steering stem mount type are a lot better protected from damage in the event of a crash (although we obviously try to avoid crashing at all costs ;P) edit; looks like that was already said .. oh well, never hurts to repeat it.

| Re: witch damper do you like I prefer a piston style damper located below the instrument cluster as opposed to anything mounted above the tripple clamp, especially on a track bike to prevent it getting damaged in a accident. I was about to order an ohlins from DK but needed something in a pinch for my last track day so I grabbed a standard damper from an 06 R1 that is sitting in my garage and just put heavier oil in it (motul 15w) and it works brilliantly, I probably wont even bother with the ohlins now |

the way my scotts is situated, it is pretty well protected up on the triple. The bike would have to grind down most of my preload adjusters before it would be near hitting the scotts. I had the bike flip over completley and never touched the scotts.
I have seen enough fairing stays crushed from even low speed impacts (mine being one of them) and mounting anything even remotely fragile near it would not be my first choice.
Not arguing your point as you may have different experience/circumstances, just thowing in my own (inflation adjusted) 2 cents. |
