| My 04 CBR600F4i... hi everyone.
just wanted to post a picture of my first bike. i just signed up a while back on fireblades.org and have been given some very valuable information to the few questions that i presented. a year ago at this time we did not even have one bike in the family. now we have three. my oldest son who is 29 got myself and my younger son (23) into cycling and we are loving it. we all took the safety class as we fewlt that was extremely important. especially for us newbies to the sport. i am 54 and love my sportbike. a few of my friends around my age at work think i am crazy for not going with a cruiser but i love how manuerverable this bike is. ond day i may get a cruiser but i will always have a sport bike as well. we have 4 honda cars in the family so you can see why i elected to go with a honda. found this bike, with the custom features for a mere $6000.00 and it only had 2300mi when i got it. the young man i purchased it from wanted to get a car for drifting so i lucked out.
take care everyone and i appreciate the help when a question does arise. you guys are great.

| Re: My 04 CBR600F4i... Nice looking bike. Take a track school one day, it'll really open your eyes.
EDIT: That chain looks a little too tight, how much free play do you have in it? |

in re: to chain freeplay. i just had it in for its 4000mi service a week ago so i would think that it is adjusted properly. i will look in the manual and double check it. i appreciate you noticing this. |

| Re: My 04 CBR600F4i... You should have a slight dip in the chain. It prevents streatch, allows the suspension to travel fully, and not bind. it is best to do all your own maintenace to know every aspect of the bike. You can't assume anyone did anything right when it's your butt on the line. especially not a dealer.
nice bike! enjoy the ride and get to the track you'll be hooked! |

| Re: My 04 CBR600F4i... you guys made me curious as to what the freeplay actually was so i just went out and checked it and it came in at 1-1/8". the manual says between 1" and 1-3/8" so i think i'm good. but you know what. that was a good point about learning to do things yourself. believe it or not. i put on my own frame sliders with the help of this forum and they are right on the money. it does make you feel good...doing things yourself. i think that with the help of this forum and reading up on my bike i will feel more confident to tackle certain things as time goes on. i have never had a bike till this one so this is a totally new experience for me.
thanks again. |

I remember giving you advice on putting those sliders on, glad they came out to your liking.
buy the Service Manual, well worth the price.
working on the bike yourself is so much more satisfying. and then you know exactly what was done.
how many miles do you have on it now?

| Re: My 04 CBR600F4i... well i think i am going to take your advice learn more about my bike and do some of the less difficult things myself to know that it was done correctly. i recentlt took my bike in for it 4000 mile service and when i got it back i noticed two things. the first was that the fairing on one side was not seated properly so i fixed that. then i noticed that the clutch lever had no freeplay. when i was out yesterday i had a tough time getting into 1st gear at a stop and i never had that problem before. so when i returned home i decided to adjust the lever. the manual says 3/8" to 13/16" so i made it 1/2". i just took it out a while ago and it seems to be a lot better. could that be a function of the lever adjustment...not letting me get into 1st gear easily? or if not that what could be the problem. it worked fine before i took it in. i would hate to think that something happened while it was in the shop but i remembered what you saoid about doing things yourself. that is very good advice.
thanks for that. |

| Re: My 04 CBR600F4i... locktight everfything! i have lost a few fairing screws and a shifter fell off after i adjusted it and didn't locktight it. a good thing to do is to take a torque wrench around the bike and check everything out periodically.
Enjoy the ride! |

| Re: My 04 CBR600F4i... thanks mr BDA116. i figured it was a function of the lever not being adjusted properly to cause me to not be able to get into 1st easily. i will now keep an eye on this myself to know that it is adjusted properly.
take care.
