| slipper clutch f4i Has anyone installed a slipper clutch on an f4i? From what I've seen, no one makes them, but maybe I'm wrong..
I should really just sell my bike and get a newer one, but money wont allow at the moment |

| Re: slipper clutch f4i everyone has a slipper clutch, its just upstairs between your ears. blip the throttle when downshifting.

| Re: slipper clutch f4i It confuses me when people who ride IL4 feel the need for a slipper. Ride a twin, then you'll see a bike that could really use one. |

I didn't say anything about only using it for a stop light. you should ALWAYS use it for downshifting. if you don't use the clutch when downshifting there's no way you can blip the throttle. doesn't matter what kind of vehicle it is, bike, car, tractor trailer, you always use the clutch when downshifting. clutchless upshifting on the other hand can be done in any vehicle when done properly.

| Re: slipper clutch f4i if it was that useless then it wouldnt be standard on any proffesional racing bike..
I do my best to be smooth on my downshifts, but there are times when I still feel the rear lock. One example is comming down from the jump at Grattan here in Michigan .. the rear is so light that even blipping the throttle correctly can leave the rear end hopping a bit.
Is it possible to control it completely without a slipper clutch ? Sure, but I dont pretend to be a professional racer, if I was I sure as hell could afford a nicer bike than an f4i, so I will gladly take any advatange I can get.
And I never said I NEED one, but if one was available and I was going to keep my bike, it would deffinatley be the next on my list of upgrades. Quote: |

| I'm not sure what "feel" you are refering to, but downshifting without the clutch is not a good thing in any situation. Even with a slipper clutch you still want to blip the throttle, not just wack it down a gear.
edit; I'm also curious how many of you race, as I've never seen a racer that looked down on a slipper clutch... its a lot like a steering damper, sure you can do everything in your power to control the bike, but that one time when the damper (or slipper clutch in this case) does its job could save you from totaling the bike. |

| Re: slipper clutch f4i What does a slipper clutch feel like when it's working? Is it something you feel at the clutch lever? Do you feel nothing, other than the sustained speed into a corner? have been pondering the thought of buying one, but have no idea what to expect... |

| Re: slipper clutch f4i I have not used one myself, but my understanding is that you shouldn't ever feel it, you should just notice that the back end isnt hopping as much. |

And if you think you need one for street riding you're either sadly mistaken or an accident waiting to happen. Then again I dont know **** so who cares?
Speaking of not knowing s^%$ how do you use a slipper clutch at a stoplight?

| Re: slipper clutch f4i You also need to change your oil way more due to all of the clutch material that the slipper puts into it. |

| Re: slipper clutch f4i OK...So can someone explain the experience of having a slipper clutch working? What does it feel like? If I purchased one, and unsure at this point...I would use it for track only. My bike is no longer street legal anyways. I just want to know what to expect...that's all. |

| Re: slipper clutch f4i You should expect to feel nothing, that's the great thing about it. No throttle blipping, no wheel hop, nothing. Say you are going down a straight in 6th and you're almost to your brake marker. You can grab 3 down shifts and just let the clutch out. It will match up the wheel speed with the RPM's. If you don't have a slipper then you need to blip the throttle to achieve this. I believe that most after market slippers are adjustable so that you can have the feel that you are most comfortable with as far as engine braking goes. |

| Re: slipper clutch f4i thank you for the information. I thought that the slipper clutch was felt some how through the clutch lever or the gear shifter when it kicked in to work. I still do not have the full understanding of it, but I am going to contact STM and get feed back on it..... |

| Re: slipper clutch f4i basically it makes the clutch slip when there's too much "reverse" torque. the other name for a slipper clutch is "back torque limiting clutch." have you ever got the rear wheel to hop or lock on hard downshifts? it eliminates that by letting the clutch plates slip instead of grab so engine power is cut from the rear wheel.
