600RR injection help ?

Im in the prosses of building another honda 250r with street bike engine in it my old bike has a 88 huricane engine in it. I want a newer injected engine thats lighter with more power i was wondering does anyone know if there is much of a weight differance in the newer 600rr engine from the old huricane engine.
i wont be using the stock air box I will be building new airbox and i have to locate the secondary injectors in it , i was wondering how critical is the air volume of the air box and what is the the best way to ajust your ecm paramaters? any other sugjestions tuning would be great.

Re: 600RR injection help ?

The RR engine will be much lighter than the 88 Hurricane engine.
As for the airbox volume, that's something you'd probably have to contact some engine builders about. With it being engineered specifically for the application, I'd bet that Honda did a bit of research to get it right, but you may be able to find a working solution.
You can't program the ECU. The way to re-map the fuel is to purchase a PowerCommander. It sitd inline with the factory ECU and injectors and adjusts fuel delivery.

I would actually suggest grabbing an F4i engine. The issue you have with airbox and secondary injectors would then be nonexistent.

Re: 600RR injection help ?

Kyle Racing Engines Would be a good place to call for specific engine building questions.
The power difference would depend on how "built" you go, but would probably be ~5-10 at OEM specs depending.
There is a local guy here in UT that has experience turboing an F4i, but I'd bet you will have more chassis issues with swingarm length and such before you'd have to worry about the ponies. But I'm sure you're looking into addressing that.
That guy's website is: Home Page
The turbo systems aren't really pretty, but he makes them work.
There is another shop that has run a 600RR turbo bike at a couple of the local race events. The bike is pretty quick. Squires Turbo Systems - Motorcycles
I'm sure there are others as well.
Making a fuel map would just be a matter of getting your quad on a dyno, or finding an engine dyno shop, and making sure the air/fuel curve stays right. Not difficult at all with a PowerCommander.
The CBR 600 engines are very solid, and can take quite a bit of abuse.

Re: 600RR injection help ?

that would be one fast quad. check ebay for the f4i motor. they have plenty of them for 1000 to 1500. what the hell are you going to do with a quad that fast? you would be looking at 110 at the crank stock!

I'll be using the quad for Sand duning on the Oregon coast, alittle drag racing hill climbing and all around goofing off

Re: 600RR injection help ?

Yeah, there are quite a few dune runners here with crazy machines.
they run the face of our Sand Mountain, drag race up it and stuff. I've seen GSXR1000 engines in Banshees, CR500 engines in TRX250Rs, nitrous Predator 500s - well, nitrous on all kinds of quads actually.
I'm more into the handling - which ironically is where the OEM 250R chassis is still one of the best. It's not really the best for drags or climbs out of the box, but there are plenty of parts to make it do that well.
The Short Sand Cars seem to gaining popularity. Those thing can be crazy. A nitrous 'Busa in one of those makes for a very scary fast machine.

But I'll just stick to running around, jumping and playing on a TRX450R and just watch those crazy things with amazement instead.

Building a project like that is a bunch of fun, I'm sure.

Re: 600RR injection help ?

I built a warrior with a gsxr 750 in it and had alot of problems with the air box. when i would hit it wide open it would die out. I had to actually restrict the intake air flow. and it fixed the problem by putting duct tape over the air filter opening. My new project is a 250r with a 06' r6 in it. that will be fun to build.
