dropped bike...NEED HELP DESPERATELY!!!

I am such a dumbass I'm so pissed at myself. I backed the bike into my garage today after a ride, and I was messing with the clock trying to set it. I thought I had put the kickstand down, so I tipped it over onto the "kickstand" and dropped the bike. There are small scratches on the fairings but nothing big.

The problem.......It won't start.

At first after I picked the bike up, I turned the ignition on and only the Neutral and FI lights come on, which tells me something is wrong already. Then after I turn the ignition off and wait a little and turn it back on, all the lights light up like normal but after a few seconds the red malfunction and oil lights turn off. I try it again, but this time I try to start it when all the lights are still on. It makes clicking sounds and doesn't do anything. When I press either turn signal it also makes the same clicking sound, and when I press the horn it makes a sort of windows "bing" sound like on your computer.

After I tried to start it while all the lights are on to no avail, everytime I turn the ignition to on, everything starts up normal but then instantly everything shuts off except for the N and FI and clock. Then after about a second the N, FI and headlights start to dim until the N, FI, and clock shut off altogether, but the headlights are still on but very very dim. Then when I turn the ignition to off, the clock comes back on, and is reset.

I know if the FI light is on it means that something is wrong with the fuel injection system, but in my opinion it's something electrical because of all the dimming lights, etc. The battery was changed about a month ago by the previous owner.

I don't know much about repairing motorcycles, but I'm hoping that it's something easily fixable becasue I don't know how I'm going to bring it to a dealership to fix.

Any help is MUCH appreciated

Thanks!!

Weird. I would take the seat off and check to make sure neither of the battery terminals are touching the frame. I know it's a bit far fetched, but it's possible. to the site.

Sounds like your tip sensor did its job and you need to reset it. I vaguely remember it from my manual.

Also try checking your connections. Something could've got thrown out of whack.

Turn the kill switch on and off. Your battery cables could be not making a good connection also.

Re: dropped bike...NEED HELP DESPERATELY!!!

thanks for all your help so far!

So everytime the bike tips (hopefully never again), I have to reset the tip sensor? I'll look in the manual when I get home to check how. If anyone knows how and could explain it, please let me know.

I'll try all of your suggestions when I get a chance.

Any other suggestions are welcome!

Thanks!

Re: dropped bike...NEED HELP DESPERATELY!!!

The tip sensor on my bike is reset by turning the ignition off and restarting the bike. That's about it.

you might have to turn the ignition on/off a couple times to reset it.

Re: dropped bike...NEED HELP DESPERATELY!!!

I don't know if it makes a difference or not, but I have a 2003 CBR600 F4i

I've been turning the ignition on/off a lot already. Now, all it does is turn on and everything is off except for neutral light and headlights. After about a second both lights dim, and the neutral light dims until it is off. Nothing else works, and the horn buton still makes the "bing" sound.

I'm going to try repairs or taking things apart, but hopefully it's nothing big.

Thanks for the help so far, and again, any suggestions are welcome

That's where I'd start too. Battery may have shifted when it fell and may be contacting something.

Re: dropped bike...NEED HELP DESPERATELY!!!

I just checked my old 954 service manual, and all you need to do to reset the angle sensor is to bring the bike upright, turn off the ignition and back on...so that can't be it.

You sure its not a battery problem? Sure sounds like one.
Try measuring the battery voltage with a multimeter.

Other than a connection issue, this is the only thing I can come up with. Sorry.

Re: dropped bike...NEED HELP DESPERATELY!!!

Ok, I checked everything you guys suggested and still doesn't work. Battery looks fine. Only thing is there is a plug that is unplugged from the engine control moduel. I attached a picture with the plug circled. Anyone have any idea why it's unplugged? I looked everywhere and couldn't find any slot where it may have come undone.

When I turned the ignition ON with the engine cut off in the ON position, it made sort of a clicking sound coming from about where the battery is, or below it, and then it did the same thing as always which is just dim out. Then I turned the ignition to OFF and then ON again, and just neutral light came on for about half a second and immediately dimmed out. Also, everytime I turn the ignition off, the tach goes up all the way then down again but no lights, and the clock comes back on but is reset.

I'm going to try to see if I could borrow a voltmeter or maybe buy one tomorrow to check on the battery.

Thanks for all your help so far!

This exact same thing is happening to my bike.

I know this is an old post, but does anyone know what the cause was? New ideas?

Re: dropped bike...NEED HELP DESPERATELY!!!

The original post sounds like a weak battery or shorted battery.

Re: dropped bike...NEED HELP DESPERATELY!!!

The strange thing is that it starts up just fine sometimes. It's like there's a wire that's too small of a gauge that eventually overheats. Like after I've been riding it for a while.

I also agree, I'll start looking at all the wiring to see if there's something obvious.

Thanks for the quick responses guys.

Re: dropped bike...NEED HELP DESPERATELY!!!

I had a simular problem. It was the battery. Try putting in a new battery see what happens, make sure its a 12 volt battery though.

I agree completely with the other two answers. The clicking sound sounds just like a bad battery connection. When the bike dropped one of the battery connections probably came loose and now you have a very poor connection. I'll bet you can get it going as soon as you check the connections. Let us know how it goes.

LOL...I didn't even notice this was a really old post...I wonder what ever happened.
