question re: 2004 CBR600F4i Clutch...

I have a 2004 CBR600F4i and I never really noticed this before till I was in a quiet spot with no ambient sound around. When I have the clutch lever in the engaged position the sound of the engine is different that when it is released while in neutral. there seems to be a sound that is hard to describe other than it sounds like something is whirling. this may not be the correct description but I am having problems with its description. is this something to be concerned about or is it something that is natural? Thisa is my first bike so I obviously hgave a lot to learn but I know that woith my car I understand all the sounds and am aware when nsomething sounds different. Thanks in advance for any comments on this. I appreciate it.

Re: question re: 2004 CBR600F4i Clutch...

It sounds like a few loose parts? I have a 600F4 too and I've taken mine apart at 45,000 miles. No measurable wear, but it makes the noise you described. Always has. I believe its the plates rattling around in the clutch basket. The edge of the plates may be tapping the clutch basket fingers as the engine rpm isn't perfectly smooth. That and the timing chain tensioner make for some great 600f4 music to talk about!

Re: question re: 2004 CBR600F4i Clutch...

My f4 was noisy and my f4i is also noisy with the clutch engaged in neutral. I'm told his is pretty normal for the hondas, I wouldnt worry about it.

if it is the cam chain, it should make the noise with the clutch disengaged also. That can potentially be an issue.

Re: question re: 2004 CBR600F4i Clutch...

Hi

I also have a F4i that is starting with that noise and a Suzuki Bandit that is even worse, the people at the bike shop says its only the clutch basket that starts making a noise because of wear and tear. Its normal for all bike.
Replacing the whole clutch unit might solve the noise but will chase you a few bucks out of the pocket.

When the cam chain tensioner starts moaning replace the auto tensioner with a manual one. Its very easy. Its just about removing the one side fairing , remove the old tensioner and screwing on the new manual one and adjusting it. Its that easy.

I bought my F4i with only 600 miles and it already made the noise so I'm adding one more vote for don't worry about it.
