CBR 600 F4i Burning Oil - Help Needed

My bike sat in the garage for a few months and I tried to start it a few weeks ago. Cylinders 2 & 3 were not firing, and I traced the problem to a leaking fuel pressure regulator (thanks to another thread here). I replaced the regulator, but now the bike seems to be burning oil under load and when the bike is warmed up (a lot of white smoke and smells like oil). During idling for 15 min though, there is little or no smoke. The bike only has about 6k miles on it.

If it was the rings, shouldn't it have more smoke when cold? What else could cause the bike to burn oil? Valve guides?

Any ideas or troubleshooting tips are appreciated.
Thanks

Did you replace the oil? If if so check to make sure you didn't put to much in.

Change the oil and take your bike out for a long ride. That should take care of the smoking problem. Hopefully gas wasn't in the oil. Gas doesn't lubricated well at all and can seize the engine.

Oil smoke is usually blue. White smoke is usually gas or water/gas.

I'll take a closer look at the color of the smoke and change the oil out, then ride it around to burn off anything in the exhaust. Will let you know how it goes.

Thanks for the great advice!

Look for sludge in the oil too. If it's brown-ish, water got into it.

Re: CBR 600 F4i Burning Oil - Help Needed

I changed the oil today and turns out there was gas mixed in with it! I guess it got in the crankcase from the 2 flooded cylinders that were not firing. Anyway, the oil change worked great and the bike no longer smokes. I thank you all and so does my bike!
