F4 wont start

My CBR 600 F4 wont start. Im guessing it has to do with the plugs, not sure. The battery has a good charge and will turn over the engine, but it quits like 5 secinds after the ignition. The quiting time becomes less and less as you attempt to start it. On the final attepmt, it pops as it quits, shooting a falme out of the exhaust. What should i do to fix this? Does it just need new spark plugs or does the problem possible go deeper than this?

Re: F4 wont start

Does the fact that it's cold in my garage (around freezing, or just above) have anything to do with this problem, i dont know if it should as my brothers F3 starts up fine...

Sounds like a fuel problem. Been sitting up for a while? You can make sure fuel is in the carbs by flipping the key between off and on a dozen or so times. You can hear the diaphram pump do its thing for a second each time until the carbs are filled. If the jets are clogged, it might be a bit difficult to get fresh gasoline to clean them out.

You can purge the cylinders with fresh air by cranking with an open throttle. After that, closing the throttle will create vacuum and help to fog the gas, creating a perfect combustion climate.
Alternating between open and close may help meter some fuel in there and letting it atomize.

Re: F4 wont start

I tried cranking the throttle open, and then closing it while the bike was on(does it make a difference if it is off?).. did this a few times as well as turning the bike off and on a dozen times.. still gives me the same response though.. Im thinking it has to deal with the spark plugs as there seems to be unburnt fuel causing the pop.. does that seem to follow any logic?

I clean the spark plugs by taking them off and heating up the insulator with a blow torch. Makes them good as new.

You will find that cleaning motorcycle plugs is a useless feat. Buy new ones
