what do you do (maintenance wise) when you store your bike ove the winter, and then upon getting it ready again?

Re: winterize your bike?

Make sure that you have the proper amount of anti-freeze in it and put it some where dry and warm if possible..Then when winter is over I change and flush all fluids and oil and filters. Then you should be ready..Also check your tires for dry rott and the air pressure...Hope this helps...

Re: winterize your bike?

Fill gas tank to top and add Stabil as described on the label. Run bike for about 10 mins to distribute stabilized gas throughout system.

Make sure antifreeze is in

Change oil and filter. Do not store your bike with dirty oil in it, as it contains breakdown products that can be corrosive. Unless the bike is stored for more than 6 months, or in a very humid environment, you can use this oil in the Spring.

Bring the battery inside and put it on a one amp trickle charge overnight once a month. Or, hook it to a battery tender.

If possible, get the wheels off the ground. Or, inflate them to a bit over normal and park on cardboard to insulate them a bit from the cold cement.

Clean, wax, put on a coat of chain lube

Cover the end of the exhaust, and the airbox if it's open, to keep critters out.

Cover with a sheet or some breathable cover to keep dust off.

In the spring, put the charged battery in, take the cover off the exhaust, start and go!

Re: winterize your bike?

I hate riding in below 55 degrees F weather. If I have to put that many layers on, I'm going skiing. I can't be bothered with electrics. Just not my thing, but I have friends who do ride all winter long. Then there's that issue of getting road salt all over my ride. No thanks!

Re: winterize your bike?

This concept confuses me as well. And just what is this "winter" you speak of anyways?

And before you start, it was 17 here today. In the AM, before the sun came up... though it was 53 this afternoon.

AND, if you do a search you will get plenty of advice as well as more of mine and others "clever" remarks.
