Oil Specifics - CBR600RR

Hi Guys

I hope you can Help.

My 2005 CBR600RR specifies oil > SAE10W - 40 API SG

Late yesterday afternoon I checked that I needed some oil but none was available. I contacted my dealership who also stated that they had no Castrol Actevo 4T but I may use any 10W-40 semi synthetic oil available.

All the petrol stations stocked 2-stroke oil for some unknown reason. I found that Castrol Magnatec is SAE10W-40 and this is a semi synthetic oil with an API spec of SL.

I immediately contacted the Castrol Helpline and was told by the gentleman that some people have used Magnatec and it worked but they (CASTROL)do not gaurantee this due to the Wet Clutch.

How safe is it to use Magnatec? My bike is my transport. My closest Bike shop is 30km away.

Re: Oil Specifics - CBR600RR

According to the API the SG Category is superceded by SL.

Since you stated it is marketed for 2-stroke engines so I'm assuming it's not, but make sure the API label does not say ENERGY CONSERVING.

Apologies, Castrol Magnatec not labled 2 stroke, I only meant that all the Garages only had 2 stroke oil.
