My first street bike-600RR!

Last night I picked up my first bike, a blue '03 600RR. I have only "bummed" people's bikes before so I decided I better get my own. I must admit, the main reason I got the RR over the F4i was strictly cosmetics. To me, both are extremely fast bikes! I was just wanting input on this topic (F4i vs. RR) even though I already bought it.

Also: The bike does not have frame sliders. Does anyone have suggestions on where to find some at a reasonable price? Also if there is a brand that are better than the rest.

Instead of sliders your first purchase should be good gear both physically and mentally; helmet, jacket, gloves, pants and the MSF beginners course for the mental gear.

Re: My first street bike-600RR!

Sorry, I don't have an exact answer to your question other than don't just get the cheapest set you can find off of eBay. I don't think you have to go for the most expensive either. Most of the reputable part places don't stock junk so you can trust what they sell. I just picked up my first bike (02 F4i) in July. Prior to that I rode an old FZR that was my brothers. I was able to put 2K on imy bike before it started snowing this winter. I definitely would ditto what the others are saying about good gear. I was lucky that the guy I bought the bike from gave me all his gear and it all fit perfectly. I ended up with three helmets and three jackets. I sold one of the helmets and jackets but I kept a joe rocket armored mesh jacket and a joe rocket ballistic jacket. I'm saving for leathers right now. The reason everyone tells you to be safe is that for every person that gets a new bike and then gets hurt we all have to hear from ten other people about "that guy" they know. Then we have to go through another round about safety with our wives, girlfriends, mothers, etc.
I read posts on this site for years before I joined and everyone on here seems to be pretty good about staying safe and responsible.

Re: My first street bike-600RR!

walkerdb, congrads on your pickup. I think that you got an 04RR, because blue was not a color in 03. Blue replaced the yellow color scheme in 2004.

As for the difference of an F4i and RR. For basics the RR is designed more for track riding and racing. The F4i is designed more for commuting, but can also make a good track bike.

I agree with hurricane249, about make sure you have proper gear, before you start modding the bike. But, if frame sliders are the first thing you decide to get, decide wether you are only going to do street riding or track riding. What you want to consider is how long the sliders are. You do not want to long of sliders on the track. But, as for manufacture of the sliders any of the major shops/online stores will care good ones, probably looking around $50-75.

Re: My first street bike-600RR!

You can get sliders that have replaceable caps, this way if you drop the bike you don't have to replace the entire frame slider (if scratches piss you off like they do me) you can simply replace the cap. I have dropped my bike once and it was before there were sliders to catch it
