F4i Engine Rebuild

Ok, so i've rebuilt car motors before, and i've never had this problem..

I have a shop manual, and I follow it to a "t". Plastigauge says the new bearings have the proper clearance. But when I assemble the two block halves and torque them to proper specs (25 N-m), the crank is seized! Now if I torque to to half the spec 12.5 N-m, the crank turns ok... I only have the crank in, no rods or pistons... The bolts are torqued in a criss-crossing pattern, etc.

I have my suspicions as to what the problem is, but I'm not ready to admit it... Let's see if anyone agrees with my suspicion,

IDEAS?

you have to tell us what your suspicion is before we can agree or not.

Re: F4i Engine Rebuild

i didn't want to influence the ideas! anyway, i thought it was a warped block, but now i'm not so sure. I have a second block, and with the same crank its tight, but it turns by hand. i've had other motorcyle engines that turn easier, so maybe it's b/c the bearings are new, but i've never had this on any other engine...

Re: F4i Engine Rebuild

Now that is what I call an interesting problem, I'm guessing everything turned over fine before you stripped it down?
