Changing the chain/sprocket

So I went to the local motorcycle shop here in redneck indiana to pick up a new chain and sprocket set. Was told while I was there that if I brought my bike in to get the stuff changed there then they wouldn't use a rivet master link instead they would use a "clip on" master link and suggested if I do it myself I do it the same way. Was just wondering what you guys/gals thought of this

The clip style is easier to put on but there is the possibility it could pop off. Especially when more torque is applied to the chain such as with a liter bike. I use a rivet link on my 900 street bike and a clip with safety wire on my 600 track bike.

Re: Changing the chain/sprocket

I have asked the same question and the folks here have told me using a clip style master link is a no no only a rivet type master link. I guess i can see why with so much horsepower. I just put a new chain on my bike. I bought the motion pro chain tool kit about 45 bucks on ebay and did it myself it took me about 2 hours to do. Had to clean every sq inch of my swing arm and drive train though. very easy to do. Plus i now have the peace of mind that it is done correctly.
