F3 not running properly

My 97 F3 is not running well. If I ride it real hard keeping it in the high rpms it runs fine, but as soon as i let the rpms drop and roll on the throttle it starts coughing and runs really rough until brought back up to the higher rpms. Any suggestions, of where to look first?

Re: F3 not running properly

Give your bike a thorough tune-up. Oil change, plugs, water, chain adjustment, valve adjustment, and balance the carburators. That should be a good start.

Make sure you get the carbs cleaned, that seems to be the most common 'bad running' condition. Also you might wanna check all the hoses and fittings on the intake.

Re: F3 not running properly

Sounds like those large main jets on the carbs are the only ones that aren't clogged. If its been sitting up, you might have to take them apart, pull the jets out and poke through the passageways for varnish. Nasty stuff and it likes to hide in the tiniest places.

Re: F3 not running properly

Clean the carbs and check the plugs for blockage. Next get the pressure check for the valves. I had the same proble with an 97 ZX-6R. After a valve adjust the bike still runs like a champ.
