| Full Throttle = 9500RPM?? I have a 2004 600RR. It's got A LOT of mileage (31,500+), but I don't think that is what the problem is. . .
The bike runs GREAT at low end, until I hit 9,000RPM, then the engine sounds like it wants to explode or something. I can't really explain the way it sounds, but the RPMs just completely stop rising. The bike doesn't slow down at all, just doesn't pick up any speed. It seems to be only when I give close to full throttle. If I ease into the throttle very slowly, like maybe 10 - 15% (and I really mean ease,) it picks up speed slowly but surely. But who owns a sportbike that wants to ride that way??!!?
I've recently changed spark plugs, air filter, and regularly change oil every 2 - 3K miles TOPS ever since April '04 when I got it. I have a 50 tooth sprocket also, but this has been happening since before I got it.
Anybody have any idea what this could be or have a similar problem with their RR? I really miss opening it up on the highway and the bike only tops out at about 120 now. . .PLEASE HELP! |

| Re: Full Throttle = 9500RPM?? I've had similar problems with two different cars. Both times it was a fuel filter. The filter would flow enough at low RPM to run just fine but as you increase the load on the engine the filter can't flow enough to match the RPMs and everything goes to heck.
Ignition system can do the same thing. As you increase the load it takes a lot more juice to get a good spark. So you could also check things like plug wires, etc.

| Re: Full Throttle = 9500RPM?? First, I would bring it to a trusted mechanic and have the valves and cam chain adjusted. Then you might think about getting a Power Commander and having it custom mapped for your bike. |

| Re: Full Throttle = 9500RPM?? Cool, thanks for the quick reply . . . Around how many miles should you have to do a valve adjustment? |

| Re: Full Throttle = 9500RPM?? My '02 F4i says to "inspect" at 16K. It never does give an actual time to actually adjust. I only have 2700 miles on my bike so I'm a long way off so I'm not sure when they would need to be adjusted. I would think that with 31K you would definately need an adjustment.

| Re: Full Throttle = 9500RPM?? I think that you may be looking at fueling. Make sure that the fuel lines under the tank arent kinked and not allowing full flow. that was my culprit on my RC. Also check the breather hoses and ensure the same. Were the plugs pre gapped. |

| Re: Full Throttle = 9500RPM?? Found out some GREAT news today!! I still have an extended warranty that I got when I bought the bike! Honda is going to diagnose and fix the problem for free if it is in fact the fuel pump, as well as fixing the brake linkage that was recalled by Honda on the 04 600RR. Can't drop the bike off until next week some time, but I'll let you guys know how it turns out. . . |

| Re: Full Throttle = 9500RPM?? Arite Guys . . .so here's the deal when I brought my bike to Honda. . .
As I said earlier, I have an extended warranty on the bike. . .
The mechanic at Honda SWORE that it was the MAP sensor that was bad and this was the reason for the problem I'd been having. . .He said the fuel pump tested fine and it wasn't the problem. I told him what I had read over the past couple weeks about 600rr Fuel Pump problem with the same symptoms, but he wouldn't order the damn pump for me. . .
Bike was at the shop for 2 weeks, got it back with a new MAP sensor and I'm still having the same effin' problem!! The guy at the shop told me when I called to pick it up that everything was fixed and it was running like a champ. . .
WRONG!!!
When I picked up the bike, I rode down the block from the shop and turned right back around . . . The guy was apologizing left and right and told me he was ordering a pump "right now." I'm still waiting for the new pump and fuel filter to come in. I'll let you guys know what happens after I get her back . . . |
