600rr Engine Case Repair

I've recently started working on a project and picked up a 2005 CBR600RR. I got it for pretty cheap because of one little problem. See below. I am hoping you guys can help by giving me some tips on fixing it. I've tried one other forum but they seem to get to far off topic too fast so I figured I try here.

The current plan is to mill out a piece to fit the broken chunk. I've already modeled this piece and am putting it in the mill later this week. But I am debating whether I should just JB weld the piece back into place, or go ahead and risk warping the the case in order to weld it. Comments are greatly appreciated. Here are some things that I am considering.

-The broken piece is not under a lot of stress at all times and is supported by parts like the stator cover.
-The engine is going in a prototype of this project, so it will not be worked real hard. It's going to be more of a looker than anything.
-The piece that I am machining will leave almost zero gap between the broken part of the case and the repair piece.

Anyway, I'll post more as this project develops.

Thanks

Here is the motor, boy is it pretty.

Here are the areas where I foresee that there would be a problem with welding. Bearing supports, etc???

Re: 600rr Engine Case Repair

Well, here it is. I finally put an giant chunk of aluminum on the mill today, and ended up with this.

And it fits nicely onto my new oem stator cover:

Now that it's milled out I had to do a little fitting to the case, and here we are; I just had to make it a little smaller!!!

Cheers, goodnight!

NICE!! I'm liking it. It looks like it is coming together just a little bit.

Have you started a separate thread with this project? If so, we demand a link...
