oil change on a 2004 CBR 600 F4i...

i am thinking that i may tackle changing oil on my 2004 CBR600F4i the next time it needs it, rather than take it in to the mechanic. what i would like to know is whether it is possible to remove the filter without removing the farings. the manual says to remove the farings however, when i was detailing my bike today i could see the filter in plain site and was thinking that maybe it is possible to get remove it without removing the farings. thanks in advance to anyone who can share some knowledge on this. i appreciate it.

I wrapped the headers with Aluminum foil to keep oil off of them. Then just remove filter then replace with new one I lube the gasket on the new filter with a little oil.

yea f4i's are easy to change the oil/filter in w/out removing anything. I bought the oil filter wrench (goes on 3/8 ratchet) and i use a 6" extension works great. I usually buy the oil in the gallon containers, it takes most of it and saves a little money, plus after a few oil changes you have enough leftover to do another one.

should be able to find it at your local walmart, if you use K&N then there is a nut welded on it so no filter wrench is needed.
tighten oil filter just like a car. until the seal hits the metal then I think a quarter or half turn past.

Not sure about an '04, but the torque setting for the '03 F4i oil filter is 20 lbf.ft. Improperly fastening an oil filter is asking for trouble...

I bought the "exact" oil filter wrench from the dealer. It comes with an oil filter for about $20, so I guess you are paying about $10 for the wrench. I personally give it a good recommendation and I always use a torque wrench on it.
