This is no sarcastic question but why would you want to do that ?
The fact that no turbo is available for a 600 should be a pointer........maybe it's not fit for a turbo

This Turbo kit was on eBay. Looks very good. Auction ended recently without the reserve being met. Here is the item number. 150108772975 . Copy and paste it in the search box on ebay. eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices . I'm sure you can at least contact the seller.
Good Luck, Dennis |

Its been mathematically proven that turbos cannot work on a 600cc engine. The laws of physics strike once again.
Sorry...

Not entirely sure why physics proves it won't work... I have been apart of a group that loaded and F3 600cc engine into a 1/4 formula car. We set up the fuel injection and a turbo. Worked pretty decent.... Not sure if there are any kits available. But there are turbos out there that you could use I am sure. It made a difference in this car. So you may need to do some work, but it should be managable if you have a little experience with them and a little mechanical know-how.
I would just keep googling it... I would think somebody out there has done it before... or something very similar and you could get some input. I would offer more help but I don't have any of the drawings or paperwork for the F# project anymore. I do recall that the turbo was a small unit for a 4cyl. automobile engine though.... like a civic or something.

Mathematically proven. What bollocks, a turbo will work on virtually any engine. You just need to be able to get one. The problem may be that nobody does a turbo for a 600. Why you want one is another issue altogether. Main reason is most 600's get most of their power high up in the rev range. If you strap a turbo on you should get a shed load of power high up but stuff all power lower down. If you get it wrong you are going to get your self tits up as all the power will kick in in one go. The only reason to get a turbo is if you intend to drag the bike. If you will do you will get your arse kicked as everyone else will have turbo Hayabusa engines. |

I'm not sure how unlimited your budget (i.e. credit cards) is, but there is a nifty little trick for fixing the lag if you are drag racing. A little bit of nos at the collector will get that turbo kicking at full tilt on a warm motor. I'm not sure how practicle it would be on a weed-eater (I mean your 600), but it would be worth looking into. |

Proven where? I have personally seen a few different 6's with turbos. Friend of mine has an f4i with 8 lbs of boost. Believe me, it works. Any gasoline motor with a turbo is going to produce more power. that is common sense.

The record holder for the 600 class at Bonneville runs a turbo. You just have to have a small enough turbo that the volume of exhaust gas produced will actually spool it up enough. It has been done and will continue to be done. Whether or not it makes any sense at all for a street bike is another question.

Like I said. If can be done. Google. I found kits available. Didn't like all of them. Some up in the $3500 range and look ugly cosmetically, but they are out there. Look around. And one of the last posts was right, it basically comes down to the volumetric flow rate required to move any given turbo. The turbo from a Cummins Diesel off a semi wouldn't do it. Your exhaust gas couldn't spool it up. You need a smaller one obviously. They exist. And as an engineer I would recommend starting at maybe 6-8 pounds of boost on a 600. I think you could tweak the system a little. But the group is also right in saying that it is going to really change your throttle response. It will probably really kick in once your RPM gets up. It may take some playing with. Not sure its too practical. And if you drag I would look into an old salvage BUSA… you could dual turbo a busa, add NOS and push 500 Horse Power.
Please post pictures when you get to this project!!!!!

Honda put a turbo on a CX650.
Try looking at what goes in a SMART car.

I feel that putting a turbo on a sportbike is overkill, but to each there own. I have a co-worker that is making a custom turbo kit for his Busa and I think that current 1Ks have plenty of power. But, if you decide to do such a project, you might as well do it right and do it once.

Or you could pick up a turbo from a CX-500 Turbo, an XN-85 Turbo, or a Yamaha Seca turbo

Typically a forced induction engine will have a lower Compression Ratio by design. If your buddy left his orginal GSXR top end installed, and built any kind of boost at all, it would spell disaster. One can't simply "bolt on" a turbo and expect the engine to survive long term. The entire package must be designed to work together. One must consider compression ration (as I stated earlier), A/F ratio with improved control, ignition timing control, improved cooling systems and so forth.
Cheers!

BTW, Honda made the CX500TC in the early eighties. If I remember correctly, it was alot like the Interceptors of the day. Might be able to scab the turbo off one of those?

The CX500 was different than the interceptors, it had the moto-guzzi ish V-twin.

I was thinking in appearence; kina naked bottom side with an half mid and full upper fairing and little bit of body work on the top side...
Forgot about the strange engine config V-twin. Transverse mounted if
I remember? I remember them having "Turbo" stamped into the exhaust cans and thinking it was sorta "jakey" for them to do that. They sure were proud of the fact that it was turboed.

Yeah, it was a standard that they threw some body work on. I love the concept behind the old turbo bikes though. I can't imagine riding one on the street, turbo lag probably isn't fun in a car, I can guess it would be worse on a bike.

I've seen videos on YouTube of turbo'd push mowers. It can be done no doubt.

I rode a Kawi GPZ Turbo once and it wasn't too bad...I liked my GPZ 900 better. No replacement for displacement...
I noticed on the GPZ Turbo that there was always a slight difference in time between when I would close the throttle and the engine would repsond and it was always unnerving to me. It was only a fraction of a second, but noticable. I always thought "someday, it's not gonna stop but just keep going".
Back to the original topic again; if lag is a concern, one could opt for two small turbos instead of one larger one. Course, like everything, theres pros and cons to that solution as well. "Twin Turbo" just sounds cooler. |
