gas/tank questions

Hey everyone, I want to take the tank off of my 96 F3 so I can give her a tune up, but mainly to clean the carbs and maybe the whole fuel system if I need to. I just got this bike from a guy that let it sit for months.

My questions: Is there some type of special solution to clean the inside of the tank and fuel lines with after I empty the old gas? When I take the tank off, do I have to leave a vent open so it can breathe while the gas is in it? What's the best way to dispose of the gas and what should I put it in to store/transport it? My Clymer's manual didn't go into those details.

I'm new to the art of motorcycle maintenance, only have some basic tools (getting a carb tuner tomorrow), and low on the cash flow for now. Any tips would be great. Thanks.

Re: gas/tank questions

Fresh gas and long rides do wonders to clean an old fuel system.
