My F4 track toy

It just occurred to me that I never posted any pics of my '99 F4. Well...here it is:

Nice resurrection from the dead! I like. Good to see that you are rockin' the F4.

What did you end doing with those side fairings?

Re: My F4 track toy

Thanks for the compliments!

I sold the left and right side fairings, along with the tail section. The upper and front fender were so bad I just had to throw them away. The only things I have left from it are the brake light pressure switch, horn, trunk lock mechanism(not the lock itself, just the latch), front sprocket cover, and air intake covers.

Re: My F4 track toy

Will do.

In the meantime I'm trying to come up with a color scheme for it. What do you think of this?

(P.S.) Is there a way to just post the pics?

Re: My F4 track toy

I think you have to be a supporting member to do that. I personally think that the black, blue, red, and white is just go all over the place. I would do something bright so you stand out like white with that color blue wings and white rims with blue pin stripe. Thats just me do you think looks bad ass. Let us know how it turns out.

Re: My F4 track toy

Hey, Nice bike. Who did you get your body work from?(mine from Airtech, they suck. Don't bother even calling them) Mine started out as a roadbike before, and was in good shape so all I had to do was fit the bodywork and saftywire. Here are some pics of my '99 F4 track only bike. Feel free to take the color scheme if you wish, I just like yellow....shows upper better when I put it in the swamp!

Track Bike 1

Track Bike 2

Track Bike 3

Re: My F4 track toy

Thank you. My race fairings are Sharkskinz.

I like your color scheme. It looks clean.

I'm finishing up sanding/prepping the plastics so I could start to put the primer coat on this weekend.

As for safety wire, how did you go about doing yours? Did you drill all your holes in the bolts? If so, what size bit did you use and how many did you wear down or break by the time you were done? If you could post some pics of your safety wiring I would really appreciate it.

Re: My F4 track toy

Thanks for the kind words, but its a Krylon Can job and from 50' it looks OK. But I figure its a race bike...gonna' get crashed....why spend a fortune on the paint?

Anyway as far as the safety wire part I had all winter to work on mine and I did drill some of the bolts on the bike but most came off when I was working on that part or the surrounding parts and had the time. The only bolts I refused to remove were the brake banjo bolts. But these are easy as are a few others because the tops are concave and easy to drill through on an angle.

I use a 1/16" drill bit which is the size most people use I believe.I found you can buy cheap drill bits but you just need to buy a whole bunch. I buy the Dewalt 1/16" drill bits found at Home Depot. Until I do somthing stupid they last great, but they're about twice the price of cheapies. I use a corded drill with good variable speed capabilities and go SLOW. Nice ribbons of metal should appear. Take your bit out every once a while to clean out the hole and let it cool. When I take the bolts off the bike I built a wooden block to clamp in the bench vice and drilled holes in it of various sizes to accomadate diffrent size bolts. Much easier, and I didn't have a drill press at the time.

To twist the wire I also didn't have a set of special safety wire pliers so I used a set of small needle nose vice grips to hold and twist the wire and needle nose pliers to to feed the wire through to holes. Side cutters to cut the wire to length.

The only pic I didn't take was of the oil filter and drain plug. But I thing the guide shows it well. I use a large hose clamp around the oil filter and twist a piece of wire around the clamp, install the clamp, then I take that piece of wire and go back and wrap around something hard and stationary. Same with the oil drain plug. Drilled the drain plug and then drilled another hole in a small piece on the bottom of the oil pan somewhere non vital. I used this technique on the oil filler cap as you might see.

Here are some pics, and a website I googled. "How to Safety Wire" was my search criteria. Good info and it will give you the correct way to do most jobs. Some is just trial and error. Enjoy.
How to Safety Wire

Front Brake Safety Wire

Front Axle Safety Wire

Rear Axle Safety Wire

Exhaust Can Wire

Oil Filler Cap Wire

Radiater Cap Wire

Shift Rod Wire
