Thanks for the kind words, but its a Krylon Can job and from 50' it looks OK. But I figure its a race bike...gonna' get crashed....why spend a fortune on the paint?
Anyway as far as the safety wire part I had all winter to work on mine and I did drill some of the bolts on the bike but most came off when I was working on that part or the surrounding parts and had the time. The only bolts I refused to remove were the brake banjo bolts. But these are easy as are a few others because the tops are concave and easy to drill through on an angle.
I use a 1/16" drill bit which is the size most people use I believe.I found you can buy cheap drill bits but you just need to buy a whole bunch. I buy the Dewalt 1/16" drill bits found at Home Depot. Until I do somthing stupid they last great, but they're about twice the price of cheapies. I use a corded drill with good variable speed capabilities and go SLOW. Nice ribbons of metal should appear. Take your bit out every once a while to clean out the hole and let it cool. When I take the bolts off the bike I built a wooden block to clamp in the bench vice and drilled holes in it of various sizes to accomadate diffrent size bolts. Much easier, and I didn't have a drill press at the time.
To twist the wire I also didn't have a set of special safety wire pliers so I used a set of small needle nose vice grips to hold and twist the wire and needle nose pliers to to feed the wire through to holes. Side cutters to cut the wire to length.
The only pic I didn't take was of the oil filter and drain plug. But I thing the guide shows it well. I use a large hose clamp around the oil filter and twist a piece of wire around the clamp, install the clamp, then I take that piece of wire and go back and wrap around something hard and stationary. Same with the oil drain plug. Drilled the drain plug and then drilled another hole in a small piece on the bottom of the oil pan somewhere non vital. I used this technique on the oil filler cap as you might see.
Here are some pics, and a website I googled. "How to Safety Wire" was my search criteria. Good info and it will give you the correct way to do most jobs. Some is just trial and error. Enjoy.
