| cbr 600 fw (98) Hi.
I bought an engine off ebay a few months ago, its off a cbr 600 fw (1998), since then ive been searching round for other bits and bobs to help get it running. I eventually want to stick the engine in a small chassis and make it into a nice and fast kart.
Just a few questions to start off with, what temperature does the engine usually like to run at?
What is the area of the radiator?
I would like to know the area of the radiator as i was thinking of getting a small car's radiator and using that rather than an expensive 2nd hand cbr radiator, plus the cbr ones are bent into a 'v' type shape, i wanted a flat one.
On my bike, there are the 2 hose connections (25mm) to go to and from the radiator, but there are also another 2 small hoses (approx 6mm internal diameter), im not sure where these lead to and what they do?
I can get some pictures and show you the ones which i mean if you like?
I think one comes from the water pump and one from the thermostat area (could be wrong though).
Do i need to have anything connected to the small air pipes on the carbs? (Where the solenoids and small air box things go)
Any help / advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

| Re: cbr 600 fw (98) He sure asked a couple didn't he.
the small hoses... if its like my 02 F4i then the small one by the top radiator hose (there are actually two there) one runs to the coolant tank (up by radiator cap)and the other is an "air bleed hose" looks to go into the thermostat housing
the one on the other side with the lower radiator hose is the Oil Cooler Water Hose and it runs to the water pump.
Not sure of the size of the radiator but it and the engine will hole 2.9 quarts if that helps at all |

| Re: cbr 600 fw (98) thanks for the replies, ive re-read my haynes manual and i think that the 2 small hoses go to the carb's.
One is directly from the water pump, the other goes through the thermostatic valve (its sort of bolted to my starter motor). Im not sure which way round they go onto the carbs, but i guess it doesnt matter too much since water will flow between them either way.
Sorry to be a silly billy, but i dont know what a fische is, lol.
I guess for the radiator i might as well get a small car one, or ive seen a nice alloy one on ebay for about £30 ($60).
How many hoses connect to the reservoir tank?
I guess the engine temp is ok if the needle is sat between the min and max marks on the clock. |

| Re: cbr 600 fw (98) If you would like tomorrow I can go out and measure my radiator from side to side and top to bottom. Not sure what the "cooling part" is though.
PM me if you want me to do so. This way I don't have to try to hunt through threads to see the answer (yes I'm lazy) |

| Re: cbr 600 fw (98) by cooling part i meant the area which air goes through, not the surrounding frame. |
