f4 problem

i have a 99 honda f4 that doesnt always want to run. it is gettin spark, i changed the plugs also. i think it is a fuel pump problem. i tried the relay off of my friends bike and it didnt affect anything. if a put diret power onto the fuel pump, the pump runs for like 7 or 8 seconds then it turns off. if a try to touch it to power again. it still will not work, it seems like the bike will run for a minute or so after i prime up the pump like i just said. i really dont no what the problem is. so you think i need a new pump. also a few weeks ago it was running mint then a ran it out of gas. they only time it ran good after that was i ran direct power to the bike and rode it in the lot. i dropped it and it flooded and does want to run anymore for more then a minute. then it feels like it is running on 2 cylinders. than it dies. i dont understand what the problem is. thanks in advance

Re: f4 problem

Its a diaphragm pump and it sounds like its working correctly. It will stop pumping when pressure is reached. Every time you flick the ignition key to ON, it should have power for a second. When the engine is running, it should have power until the engine dies for some reason. This is the fuel cutoff safety feature and may be where your problem is coming from.
