Engine runs hotter than normal

Last week my thermostat switch went out, so I replaced it, along with new antifreeze. Now my bike runs hotter than normal. I usually run in the 180s on the Hwy. Now my bike runs from the 190s and up into the 200s. Any ideas?

Re: Engine runs hotter than normal

did you burp the system after changing the coolant?
My bike sees these temps all the time. I can get it to 200 depending on how I'm riding down the highway. If I ride normal it will sit anywhere between 180 and 190 depending on the outside temp

Re: Engine runs hotter than normal

How do I burp the system?
My bike usually runs high 170s to 180s. I don't see 200 unless I'm sitting at a light.

Re: Engine runs hotter than normal

There can be air in the cooling system. When you filled it did you squeeze the
hoses to get the air out.
What coolant did you put in the bike and did you mix 50/50 water.

Re: Engine runs hotter than normal

No, I didn't squeeze any hoses. I used a 50/50 premixed antifreeze from my local moto dealer.

Re: Engine runs hotter than normal

If there is air in the system then the coolant will not be cooling all that it
should be as air will be where coolant should be.
Take off the cap and move the bike left and right and sqeeze the hoses to get
the air out.

Re: Engine runs hotter than normal

I am not sure how to edit but only take off the cap when the bike is cool and
not hot.

The bottom hose, the top hose, or all the hoses?

All. It's easy, I just changed my coolant last weekend. Leave the cap off, and squeeze all the hoses a couple times while the bike is idling. Also blip the throttle, too...

Re: Engine runs hotter than normal

Cool thanks! I'm assuming I need to top off the coolant in the radiator.

Yes, after any air is purged fill it back up to the top.

I'm new to the whole DIY maintance and my bike was running a little hot too. I was wondering can I just put any 50/50 premix coolant in there? And how do you put the coolant in there? I ride a '01 CBR 600f4i

Re: Engine runs hotter than normal

Pick up some coolant from your local Motorcycle dealer/shop. I used one called Engine Ice, it works great now. My bike runs 10 degrees cooler than it was. As far as putting the coolant in, (at least with my bike), all I have to do is remove the right side faring, and use a funnel.
