| F2 to F4i body Swap Complete - Pics & Questions Yep, another F2 to F4i conversion. I bought this bike complete from the neck back (no forks, wheel, guages or nose) and restored it. I love my F2, it does a fine job of holding its own in the 600 class and even higher when the corners get tighter. 94 was the best year for an F2 due to the stock adjustable suspension and increased use of aluminum. I did all the popular mods that are still available and within reason for a 13 year old bike... like stiffer springs, Racetech Cartridges, V&H 4 into 1 full exhaust, jet kit, K&N, 420 alum. chain conv. -1 front, short shift kit, functional cold/ram-air, V&H Powerpack and a good set of pilot powers. It became more aggressive, quick through the rpm's and taps the rev limiter (15000rpm) in sixth gear at 157 mph (fisrt rev-limit hit was scary, didnt know it had one). It was just too hard or expensive to find more modern looking aftermarket fairings/lighting. So I ebay'd my stockers and used half the proceeds to convert to newer less expensive fairings (what a deal!). The sides were straight forward with just a little trimming and drilling, the nose was custom only because I wanted to retain the stock guages (you can use the F4i stuff and two plates at the neck) and the tail was short work with a hacksaw and some bolt on plates (that was the easy aproach). After the front end F4i body swap and the first test ride, I realized how bad the stock F2's flat nose made the front end feel slow and heavy at speed. The F4i body felt almost twitchy but definately more flickable and less resistance. With everything, I have the bike down to 428 lbs wet from 453lbs wet stock . It also bounces off the redline in every gear now, and powers up to the rev limiter isntead of creaping up to it in sixth. Sorry, no dyno - been too busy but I would expect average gains over stock within reason. I think the entire combinations is just working well together though which makes it feel so angry. Anyway, I'm almost done which brings me to my question (if you read this far
I have all the ram-air ducting and covers in place and have an F4 tank. Has anyone tried to mount F4 carbs to an F2/F3 engine... or an F4 airbox to F2 carbs? I'd like to clean this part up and finsih the paint job.

It's now cleaned up and the mockup finalized. I swapped to a stock F4i front seat - which is way too stiff!!!!!!!! ... but looks better. Its getting a new cover and more padding next! I'll post up latest pics soon.

| Re: F2 to F4i body Swap Complete - Pics & Questions Hi and thanks! The front fairing conversion is the easiest part. Both the F2/3 faring neck mount and F4i fairing stay look identical and have the same dimensions. You can easily butt them together and sandwich them between two square aluminum plates and cross drill them to reuse the stock hardware. The rest is just availabe alignment and a little trimming.
To do this just assemble the entire upper f4i assembly, use nylon bolts to attach the upper fairing to the side fairings and use the left side stator cover hole to align the entire side. Bolt or screw in the stock F2/3 body mount under the kickstand and the F4i panel will line right up. Copy this alignment on the right side so it looks equal and the areas you need to trim will be obvious (radiator hose, clutch cable and lower clearancing. Make sure the bottom of both siders are sinched together. Then raise or lower the nose through the remaining range of motion to set your desired height. Once you have it where you like it, then cross drill the aluminum fairing plates over the stock holes to lock it in place and your basicly done. If you have an F3, the F4i guage swap is a clean bolt in and the bike looks very factory.
Much later in this project, I cut the tail off entirely and refabracated a new one. I needed to swap to the F3 engine so I notched the frame for the F3's TPS and reamed the braced swingarm bolt size up to the F3. Paint and clearcoat while it was apart.

| Re: F2 to F4i body Swap Complete - Pics & Questions The finished product came out pretty good. I used the F4 5gal tank which plumbed easy to the F3 fuel system using the F3 Ram Air ( I ran the F4i Ram air as well for a while too - it was good but heavier). Added Attack Rearsets, full Yoshi Rs3, aluminum clipons, hyperpro steering dampner, steel braided brake lines, Penske fully adj hi/low speed rear shock (highly reccomend!!!), F3 forks revalved. What a great bike. I had a lot of fun on it. I watched the new owner drive off the other day and he was rolling happy! I keep thinking its still down in the garage... weird! But I replaced it with an Aprilia Falco SL1000 V-Twin, which is an absolutely incredible bike! |

| Re: F2 to F4i body Swap Complete - Pics & Questions man that came out good, i definitely want to do this because im currently about to get new fairing pieces. I have a f2 so what would i have to do to make the f4i gauges work? also i would only have to buy the side fairings and the front fairing with the headlight and front fairing bracket from a f4i? or would i just be able to use the stock f2 bracket? thx for the help. One more thing any ideas on a tail i could use that would require little modification to put on?

| Re: F2 to F4i body Swap Complete - Pics & Questions The F2 can also do the guage swap, but because the speedometer is driven from the front wheel and not the engine like the f3-4i, the speed-o wont work. This was one of the reasons I switched to the F3 engine, the other being so I could swap to inverted forks.
I sold my stock fairings for twice as much as it cost me to buy F4i fairings online. The F4i stay is pretty important for fitment, the F2 stay will not work. You way be able to trim your F2 guages to fit on the F4i stay but I never went this route. For the tail, I have seen a GSXR tail mounted with an undertail exhaust that took no cutting, as well as a 600rr tail that looked pretty good and didnt require cutting the tail frame either. You definately have options, but the tail is quite complicated regardless of the aproach. I would reccomend an aftermarket fiberglass F3 race tail from air-tech. It will bolt right on, look good and solve all the little problems like seat mount. |

| Re: F2 to F4i body Swap Complete - Pics & Questions Cool. Make sure you post pics when you get it swapped over. I'd like to see how it turned out!
BTW - I've seen a GSXR tail fit cleanly on the F3 with a 600rr untertail exhaust that looks very trick. He might convert to F4i front as well. Take a look... Musclecross Forum / Rayzim's Custom CBR 600 |
