love & hate riding!

Hey what up! I have been enjoying my bike for sure! No wheelie practice yet, taking advise & looking 4 a good place 2 practice. So anyways a new problem has arose with my bike, i was riding around the niehgborhood, hen my oil light came on & the engine went off, i just changed the plugs, oil & filter. I filled up with 10-50 4 stroke oil, 4 qrts, i started my bike right up after it had shut off, should i add more oil?i checked the stick & its showing i could add about 1/2 a qrt! should i do & what if the problem persists?

Re: love & hate riding!

Because you just did an oil change and the oil has circulated and lubricated the engine which uses some oil it will show less after the first ride. Fill it up to the indicated line on the dipstick.

Re: love & hate riding!

as far as i know, my bike (97 F3) only takes about 3.75 quarts with a filter change... so a full 4 quarts should be plenty... could be different but not sure

Re: love & hate riding!

Wow, so my bike did take anothr 1/2 qrt! haven't had the problem on the way 2 work. Nice smooth ride. When I bought more oil I saw GEAR OIL, how would i go about changing that in my bike & how frequently should i? I really apprieciate all the feedback, i am a first time rider & this is obviously my first bike! so far I have changed the oil pan, oil, filter & spark plugs myself. anything else i should think about?

Re: love & hate riding!

There's no gear oil in a F3, the tranny and engine both use the engine oil. Get some good chain lube and make sure to lube and adjust your chain every 800 miles or so.
