| Re: Riders who start off with a 600 Hi! I just bought my first bike last weekend. A 2002 CBR 600 f4i. LOVE IT! I'm only 5'2" and 115lbs, so its a bit tall for me. I'm taking it tomorrow to get it lowered.... That's such a shame, I hate changing it, but safety does take priority. Its getting a new front tire too. (Safety, yet again!) The bike rocks. It's yellow too. How fun! I've already put a few hundred miles on it and plan to ride its wheels off. Anyone with any thoughts on this rocket on rails feel free to pass them along. I bought this bike from my nephew who is overseas and therefore have no earthly clue about some things, and can't call him to ask him. I just know its way more fun than I should be having... at least legally! |

I have ridden many other peoples 600's and I found them to be rather lacking in power....
AS for the commentabout changing your thoughts and changing your life... you can get killed or hurt seriously on ANY street bike be it a Ninja 250 a SV650 a 600rr or a 1000rr
my first street bike I owned was and still is a CBR1000rr, as long as you don't ride beyond your ability and you aren't an ego maniac with something to prove why not buy a bike you can grow into???
It's simple... THROTTLE CONTROL if you aren't smart enough or willing enough to back off the throttle and learn slowly and not ride beyond your ability you're gonna get hurt otherwise I think "smart" people and "sensible" people with the desire to LIVE will be fine
however if you ride like a d*** head and stretch that throttle cable wide open first time on ANY bike ESPECIALLY a liter bike you're likely to get BIT, and oh well for them because those idiots don't belong procreating and passing on their "IDIOT genes" anyway
If you have something to prove to people and an over inflated ego you don't belong riding a street bike PERIOD unless you have a death wish...
STUPID HURTS and sometimes STUPID KILLS
so be smart ride safe, if you wanna push your limits take it to the track where there aren't oil spots and sandy spots and blind spots and cliffs and trees and other cars all there trying to end your life prematurely, you can slide out into the dirt and ruin only your bike without ruining your life

| Re: Riders who start off with a 600 I started out on an 99 F4, that is last september. 14000 miles later Im still riding it, great bike comfy banana but still gets my full attention in the canyons. I think I will stick with this bike for a while as it is all I really need. Ive been fighting the urge to buy a newer bike until I feel I can use this one to its limit. As far as the displacement for starters, I know of plenty of people that started out on liters and are fine and rather good riders. On the flipside a person in my group managed to take down his 250 by his house. Any modern sport sport bike is a track weapon, tru if you hop on a liter with no clue as to what you are doing youre ane wrist flick away, however I think it is in the riders realm to be responsible with what they have. 120 HP and 369 lb dry weight should speak to anyone who knows anythythin automotive "this is obsurdly fast". The way I reasoned it is I wanted to ride a 600 so I will learn on one I was very gentle with the throttle untl I got a feel for it and gradually I improved. It is true that riding a 250 will get you aquainted with the dynamics of a motorcyle without the power to get you in trouble, but at the same time a 2 cyl 250 is no 600 sport and the feel is very different you have to wring the neck of a 250 to make it go, do that to a 600 and youll end up in jail or a hospital. This is however ust my opinion |

| Re: Riders who start off with a 600 It's all about your personality. If your patient and will take your time to learn the bike as well as develop your riding skills you can ride whatever you want. Sport bikes are fast. If you don't respect it you will get hurt, that goes for any size bike. Unlike in a car second chances aren't given out as freely. Biggest piece of advice is speed perpetuates speed. If your friends ride like maniacs DON'T RIDE WITH THEM! They could put you in unnecessary harm. Take your time, learn and respect your bike and you should have great experiences. |

| Re: Riders who start off with a 600 Whats up guys,
I have had my 95 F3 since march... I love it... I would definally recomend this for a first time rider its easy to ride and has some power to when your ready to use it. I completly stomped an 01 Suzuki 600 with power commander and everything! I have never really had any past expirence with a motorcyle, have rode 4wheelers alot though and to me riding those teaches you alot on how to read and react to terrain and things that goes on around you. Comes in handy when your going around corners and there is a huge hole in the road or like the road is all screwed up and loose asphault is scattered around. Missouri roads SUCK major!
Im still on my permit and got a couple more weeks before i go for the licence. I have seen first hand what the road can do to a person so im cautious about what i do, im not crazy at all, im in it just to cruise and enjoy it. Beings everyone throws advice in mine, just like everyone else just learn at your own pace never push yourself. Never worry about looking that like D-bag that is way in the back. I plan on keeping the honda for a while now or at least untill i can afford bigger and better, i got my girlfriend taking laps around the neighbor hood and cruisin down the road and back. She is thinking about getting her permit now.
Now im about to learn more about it cuz i have to tear her down and figure out transmisson problem and replace cam chain and tensioner, Ill buy beer if anyone wants to come over and help me fix it... |

| Re: Riders who start off with a 600 I've been riding for over 11 years now. My first bike was a '94 GSXR750 and I just went to newer and bigger bikes from there until I actually learned what these bikes were made to do. Now I'm on my 7th bike(an '05 Kawasaki ZX6R) and I'm perfectly content with it. My last bike was a '99 F4 and I had more fun with that than any liter bike I've ever owned or ridden. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...X6R2005001.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...rkat/jeff3.jpg |

| Re: Riders who start off with a 600 Rode dirt bikes from age 6. Strangely never thought much about road bikes until I stumbled upon the 96' CBR600SJR. Bought it as my first streeter and fell in love. Still have it, runs great with over 50,000 miles. One thing about starting small on your road bike. Say you start on a 600SS. Yes, they are mild below midrange, and can be ridden quite sensibly by a beginner. However they are also very fast when you get up the RPMs. What often happens is the novice on a 600 learns to go fast by twisting the throttle. Instead, one who begins on say, a 250, will have to learn to use the road. These bikes are not fast from the wrist and to make time one must learn to produce consistent speed through the turns. Without this corner speed you stand no chance of making time on a smaller bike. So, which is the better way to go? I guess it all depends on what you want from it. |

| Re: Riders who start off with a 600 my first bike was a 92 fzr 600 but rode dirt bikes before that. Had it for for 2 years before it was destroyed in bad crash. 2 weeks later out of the hospital and wrapped up in bandages after swearing to never ride a streetbike again i found myself at a local dealership were i proceeded to buy a new 98 zx6r. I learned alot from that bike before i moved on to buy 00 929. Anyway i think it is best to learn on a dirtbike or something light before jumping on a 600. |

| Re: Riders who start off with a 600 Kawasaki ZXR 400/cbr or vfr 400 are ideal beginners bikes. You have to ride them, I mean RIDE them to keep up with the big boys (and girls).
600s now are now so quick, you wont learn how to really ride them, You can just brake hard for bends, crawl round, then fire it out using the horsepower.
Overall you'll be fast, but wont learn jack **** about corner speed.
Start with a 400 and you'll learn how to really ride!!!
You then get on a 600, ride it like ya stole it, then get a 1000 and you'll be fast my boy!! Propper fast!! |

| Re: Riders who start off with a 600 cbr 600 f3 (1996), bought it this season for $2500.... all it needed was a new chain. I wouldn't go anything smaller than a 600. I've rode dirt bikes and stuff though before that.... I've been super happy with it it is very maneuverable lean into corners super easy for an older bike. It's got a jet kit and slip on exhaust. |

Rep: (10) Rep Power: 0
| Re: Riders who start off with a 600 I bought a CBR600RR almost 2 weeks ago(Choice was based on the many hours riding friends bikes;some smaller but many larger than 600cc). I have rode and raced moto-x my entire life. Though they are 2 completely diff machines I instantly loved the weight and mobilty of the bike. I am 6'1'' and can't say my figure fits well on the smaller 600 frame, but I am able to manipulate the bike well. Size can make it hard to balance or easier to balance depending on riding style. Since I have rode dirt bikes all my life, and have recently began to ride sport bikes, I almost instantly knew where the 600 lacked in power. Though the bike is quick, it does not compare to the overall power of a 1000 or 1300(which i have rode briefly fom time to time). I am unable to say how a 600 would suite a beginner rider to any motorcycle. They are not slow and can get away from you, but what sport bike can't. For an all around beginner I would recommend a starter or touring/sport bike. I almost instantly was accustomed to riding my 600RR, yet it must be respected. Light nose, snappy starts and turning abilities can make the best draw up. I will prob soon be looking for a 1000 yet keep the 600 if possible for those late night rides with the guys and track days. |
