| Re: Riders who start off with a 600 The ideal starters bike F3. I rode a yamie sr 500 when I was just 16,moved on to a f2 and then a f3,if you are resposible you will deal with it,but if your a a55hole you will fall,,like with any size bigger |

IMHO
some people pick up habbits on small bikes that work but can be disastrous if applied to larger bikes. I ride with many people on 600's and they are always talking about RPM and how they use all the throttle.
A friend of mine recently got a gas tank mounted camera for his 07 CBR600rr. he hasn't been riding too long it was his first bike and he has about 4k on it. when watching his video I noticed he hardly ever shifts and is always high in the rpm's in twisties he rarely leaves 2nd gear. It's not a 1spd bike it has 6 gears and massive brakes for a reason... people need to use them.... | |

| Re: Riders who start off with a 600 No problem. If we were talking about little sportster I would agree, but the SV650 has some kickto it. My wife has since moved up to a Suzuki SV1000S and it still scares the crap out of me. My 919 is pretty quick but her 1000 will buck you off quick if you're not careful. |

| Re: Riders who start off with a 600 Ha ha, made me laugh on that previous post about the bike being too tall. I'm 5ft 7.... just! and my 05 blade is a bit on the tall side for me!! That big wide tank doesn't help either!
I just tend to put one foot down when anyones watching, so I'm not on tip-toes!!! |

| Re: Riders who start off with a 600 Why start with a 600 if you want a fast bike. Bite the bullet and get your liter bike. Don't be stupid though, it will kill you if you don't have the self-restraint to learn at a reasonable pace. The liter bikes only weigh a few more pounds than the 600, and control is in the throttle. Be smart and enjoy your bike! |

| Re: Riders who start off with a 600 My first bike was a 1992 katana 600. It felt slow to me in 96 when I was 16. Got rid of it after a few years, and have only recently gotten another bike. In April this year I found a garage queen VTR 1000, and I now LOVE low end torque. IMO a rider should start out in the dirt on a 125 or 250. Then they would know sumthing about throttle control. |

| Re: Riders who start off with a 600 I can appreciate that, I did ride 4 wheelers growing up so I understand that there is a big difference between hitting the throttle on a 250 or smaller and a 1000. I turned over my 250 Kawasorri Mohave (no pun on other Kawasaki machines, this thing was a piece of junk!) on the first day, and it was game on from there. It only lasted me 2 or 3 years, but I may have been a little ruff on it! |

| Re: Riders who start off with a 600 Hello fellow riders. I am new to forums, but enjoying reading what everyone has to say. My first bike was a katana 750. I would say it was way to fast for my first bike. From the 750 I bought a 98' Zx-11, and loved that bike. Of course lost it due to bad choices. Soncho slid it through a major intersection while I was away, paying for my mistakes. Opps my fault. I recently repoed a 01' suzuki gs500, and decided to go ahead and pay off the remaining balance. At first I got the bike for myself, but decided very quickly that it didn't have enough power for me. So now it is my stepsons bike. He has been riding on dirt for many years, but sorry to say the road is a whole different story. I'm hoping he will pay attention to what I teach him, along with other riders. Along with getting that bike for pennies, I went ahead and bought a 94' F2 for myself. I haven't been able to ride much, due to rounded front sprocket and a chain that didn't belong on that bike. Ordered new front and rear sprocket, along with a new chain. I am looking forward to cruising the cities, and screaming down the interstates with my new D&D slip on exhaust. I was wanting to post pics of my bikes, but my F2 needs work first. The guy I bought it from put multi-color fairings on it, and instead of getting it painted, he cut up a camo parachute and glued it to the fairings. What i'll probily do is, wait until I get my new fairings and custom paint job, then post pics. That way everyone can see before and after pics. As for the topic of starting out with a 600 or not. I would have to say start with something smaller. The reason I say this, is because most wrecks happen to people either new to riding within the first six months, or someone riding a bike that they are not used to. Me personaly, I am not interested in getting hit, or loosing control at a high rate of speed, when your not sure if riding is really for you. In saying that, I want to just say. Stay safe out there, whether on the road or on the track. |

| Re: Riders who start off with a 600 First bike Kantana 750, scared the hell out of me. Didn't realize you lean to turn, instead I tried using the handle bars to turn. I remember thinking, ''this really sucks,'' way to hard to turn. I was dreaming of a bike with power steering. Got thrown off bike into someone's front yard due to graded asphalt. Was not enjoying riding one bit!!!! |

Was not enjoying riding one bit!!!! | Thats way too funny. Reminds me of the first time I let my neighbor ride my ktm 125. I told him not to pop the clutch but you know he had to. He was screaming while riding a wheelie for about 30 feet, then he let go and fell right on his ass. After he realized he was fine we both had a good laugh. |

| Re: Riders who start off with a 600 My first bike was a 2001 cbr f4i with 1 down, yohimura rs-3 stainless, pcIII, and K&N. I have been riding dirtbikes for years and getting on this was nothing. I just gradually worked my way up on cornering, accelerating, and braking. It's a great bike to take to open track day as well as go to work on (very forgiving too). I will never sell it.
I bought it because I feel comfortable on it and that matters most to me. Whether its a 250,500,600,750, etc If you don't feel confortable on it...don't buy it.

I went through a state funded MSF course and it was 25 bucks. |

Did your course include that as well? Everything in NY is more expensive. This state really rips into your bottom line. |

| Re: Riders who start off with a 600 My first bike was a 98 600F3 (pic 1), excellent starter bike was very forgiving of some of my beginner riding errors. Moved on to a '02 F4i (pic 2) after that, wasn't really ready for a liter bike just yet. Got better, started doin track days (pic 3) and that's when I started to notice where the 600 was lacking...top end power...was fine in the turns, could keep up with liter bikes if I wasn't passing them) in the turns, but once we hit the straight, I got left and had to play catch up with them in the next turn. So then I moved on to my '03 954RR that I have now and love it!! |
