Electrical Problem

Ok i have a 2001 cbr f4i and long story short i had to replace my right blinker and rewire it. i got it rewired and tested it and it was blinking but it was blinking fast. i was tired of messing with everything so i just started putting everything back together and was going to deal with it blinking fast. when i plugged all the connectors back in (two that go to the display, tach speedo, etc and one that goes to the front fairing headlights, blinkers, etc) after i plugged it all back in my display stuff did not work at all. the only thing that came on was the clock.

i checked everything and made sure it was plugged in good. one of the connectors when i unplugged it and plugged it back in would make the tach move all the way around like it does when you turn the key on but it would not keep working. but it did this before the connector was plugged all the way in.

so i probably have a electrical short somewhere but how can i figure out what is wrong without completely replacing everything?

Re: Electrical Problem

Sorry I don't have a better answer for you man, but the first thing I would check would be all the fuses, just in case. Then I'd grab the wiring diagram from my service manual, a multimeter, and start checking all the connections. The very first ones I would check would be the electrical grounds, namely anything that connects to the frame or engine, or routes back towards the battery. A lot of times, electrical faults are caused simply by faulty grounds.

Re: Electrical Problem

You have an electronic flasher. Its giving you a diagnostic code!

Blinking fast: burned out bulb, too low wattage, or too low current (LEDs...)
Solid, no flash: short
