Side stand light fading on and off very dimly

Hello gang...

About 6 weeks ago I picked up a 96 F3 with plenty of miles, but still a lot of life left in it. Did a 520 chain conversion and replaced the battery, no other real issues. Last night I noticed something - the side stand light which comes on fully bright when the side stand is down - started to slowly fade on, to about 25% brightness at its maximum. Gradually faded to almost completely dark (it was night out), and slowly started to brighten as I drove home from work. Since I had about 140 miles on the tank, I thought it might be a gasoline level warning light, but it persisted after filling up. My old 94 Yamaha YZF600r had such a gasoline level warning.

I called my local service center who went on about a short, or some current drain in the system. That does not seem to make sense to me, as the light does not come on when the ignition is in the off position, and a short would produce distinct on/off pulses, not a very slow fade.

Any ideas?
Justin

Does the light remain on when riding the bike with the stand up?

Also, is the battery 100%? I know its new but it could be nackered...

Hmmmmm... Well i wouldnt be too concerned personally, is it in the speedo cluster? (if it annoys you that much, you can always pull the bulb out - if its bulb powered)
