F2 vs F3 vs F4?

Trying to decide on a bike. Money is tight so the more "high tech", the longer I have to wait. My goal is to have a good (reliable) 600cc bike that I can go out and have fun with. Don't plan to race the bike (street riding only). I also don't care about the plastic since I want to strip it all off and go for the street fighter look.

So with all this in mind, is their really any difference between the F2, F3, and F4?

Re: F2 vs F3 vs F4?

I like the F4I's. It's a good street bike that's good on insurance.
I live the SV's for the track though.

I wouldn't mess with anything but an f4i. It is a reliable bike with more juice than those dinosaurs. You can get a used f4i for around $3500 or less now.

I'd say the same. The fuel injection is worth it.

Re: F2 vs F3 vs F4?

I have an f4 thatI have converted to an f4i. Not really much of a difference in power. the top speed from an f4 was very equivalent to an f4i. They chaged the 5th and 6th gear ratios with the injection but the cams were redesigned to give a 700 rpm higher redline. in all honest the looks and the benefits of not having a choke is all you get from an i.

Re: F2 vs F3 vs F4?

Yeah, it's not really a power upgrade from the F4 to F4i but it is a huge "liveability" upgrade to not deal with carbs. Less of an issue since you are in AZ though. In cold climates FI is the only way to go.

BTW, the '01 was the first year for fuel injection on the F4i and it had some minor glitches that they smoothed out for the '02 year. Something to consider when purchasing. However if you add a PCIII to the '01 you can smooth it out on your own, and even without the PCIII I think the injected '01 is better than a carbed F4.

Re: F2 vs F3 vs F4?

I was kind of questioning that (the carb vs FI). In AZ it's never really cold (enough to cause problems) and questioned if perhaps the carb (F4) version might somehow have an advantage (is there?).

Re: F2 vs F3 vs F4?

carbs are defiatley easier to work on; but i went from a carburated bike to an f4i and i'll never go back. all i have to do is start it up and go, unless i'm riding with my roommate, then i have to wait for his f3 to warm up a bit.

Re: F2 vs F3 vs F4?

Carbs can be just as much of a hassle in warm weather too. Evaporating fuel will leave resin on the pilot and idle jets making them run crappy at lower rpms/load. But if you ride frequently or drain the bowls, its not really an issue at all.

Re: F2 vs F3 vs F4?

Depending on how much you want to spend, and of course how quick you want a bike is how I would decide what to get. I just bought a 94' f2 for half of what you'll spend for a f4. Yes it might be a little older, but you can always sell it when you can afford to upgrade to something newer. You can find good bikes on craigslist.com from private partys, instead of paying tons at a bike store. Of course you know what you want, so go for what you desire. You only live once.

Re: F2 vs F3 vs F4?

Unless you pay waaay too much for an F2 or F3, you can always get your money back out of it pretty quickly when you're ready to upgrade.

Re: F2 vs F3 vs F4?

I payed 1,500 for my 94' F2. Yes of course you get what you pay for, but a few tweaks and mods, it'll be a bad ### bike. As long as the frame, motor and tranny are in good condition, the rest can all be fixed or replaced.
