Odd Problems with Bike

First off i wanted to say hello to all on this forum.

I just bought a '92 cbr600f2 with 13K and it also is my first street bike. It started developing a few wierd problems the other day and was wondering if anybody had some input. After searching through the forums im still unclear as to what the solution might be.

1. After first starting it in the morning and letting it run for a few minutes, I'll pull in the clutch and drop the gear into 1st and the bike lurch forward and shut off, like its stalling out or something. Eventhough I dont release the clutch handle. Wierd thing is during normal riding it feels like the clutch fully disengages between shifting gears.

2. Ive had problems getting the bike back into Neutral & 1st gear after coming to a stop light. Like it physically would not click lower than 2nd. It happonds spurratically.

Thanks in advance for any insight or thoughts to what the problem and possible solutions there are. I also have bought a service repair manual for the bike but am still waiting for it to get deliverd.

Re: Odd Problems with Bike

Well first off i wanna say hello to everyone and like this guy above me its my first post.

I have have the same problem he does except my does not lurch forward, I can not get it in neutral while its running and i just play first and second but when i shut if off i can get it right into neutral.

ALso Honda_Runner does your shift really hard, I have noticed since this neutral problem mine shifts fine going 1 2 3 4 5 6 but when i go down about 3 2 1 its really hard to push down...

Sorry for rapping your thread but why not kill 2 birds with one stone!

Re: Odd Problems with Bike

Hmm, maybe the clutch / linkages aren't adjusted correctly? Anyone else can help?

Silly question to ask, but was the kick stand up. My 954 has a switch that will kill the motor if the stand is not up.

and welcome to the site (both of you)

I'd suspect the clutch. While moving, you can shift pretty easily without disengaging the clutch entirely. If you shut the engine off in 1st gear, and pull the clutch all the way in, can you push the bike without undue effort? The lurching you describe can only be the engine engaging. Is the clutch cable or hydraulic?

That sounds more like a transmission problem. Does your bike pop out of any gears under load?

Re: Odd Problems with Bike

Um, how about the sensor for your Kickstand? Your bike will shut off as soon as you put it in gear with the kickstand down.

the clutch is cable
The cable may just need adjusting - make sure you know where you start from incase you make it worse

Sorry mate, but it was already covered earlier - and proved to be one of the problems

Good point though! - Seems like the most obvious points get missed!

Re: Odd Problems with Bike

I had an old 92 GSXR that used to do that no neutral thing. When you stop and your stuck in second, if you let the clutch out until it starts to lurch and then pull it in and click down, will it shift at that point? If so, that is what mine used to do and it could be a worn shift fork.

Re: Odd Problems with Bike

Both those sounded to be a symptom of a clutch that's not fully disengaged, but I see one of your problems was the kickstand. My bike does a little jump when you put it in gear the first time cold, I guess the clutch sticks, but If you are have trouble downshifting, maybe your clutch is not fully disengaging. Twist the adjustment screw on the clutch lever out some, and see if that helps.
