Bike shuts off over bumps?

I just got a 02' F4i 3 weeks ago and the bike runs great. I have one problem though over the weekend i was cruising on back roads, which were very bumpy, and after about 20+ sec. of continues bumps the bike will just die and the rpms will drop to zero. this doesn't make sense cause the bike is still moving so i'm thinking its something electrical like a stupid connector. usually when i put in the clutch the rpms will jump back to idle, one time i had to pull over and hit the start button again but it starts right back up. any suggestions?

Check the battery connections first. If it is not that, then start checking the other connections starting at the ECU.

Use the ECU as the hub and work your way out.

I had similar problems with my 01 F4i. It ended up being the engine cut off relay had an intermittent fault. I went ahead and replaced both engine cut off and fuel pump relays. Runs great with no issues so far.

Re: Bike shuts off over bumps?

on my 01- they are on the outside of the frame near the rear seat on the right side. engine cut off relay is the front one and the fuel pump relay is the back one. you may have to take the tail section off.

Re: Bike shuts off over bumps?

i haven't had a chance to purchase the engine relay since the dealer was closed on sun. and i have finals to study for. i did check some stuff out though the battery was tight and the fuses and relay look good.

The bike know dies after being driven along time 1+ hour when going over a hard bump or bumps. when i put in the clutch the engine turns on and when i release it it shuts off so i sometimes have to rev it a bit to get it to stay on when i release the clutch. it also tends to studer when the bike is just first starting to get driven when i give it some gas and i'm cornering hard or going over big bumps.

could it be the kick stand sensor?

Re: Bike shuts off over bumps?

I'm thinking it could be either the tip sensor getting loose and turning on its axis or else the kickstand senor, if your kickstand is loose.

its weird that the it only stutters when the bike is first started though.

hopefully i will fix it this weekend. its kinda scary when the bike is bucking like a bastard coming out of corner hard and when the bike dies on the highway in boston.
