Lift Spool install on F4 swingarm

Has anyone been brave enough to drill and tap the swingarm on a CBR600F4 to install lifting spools for a bike lift that uses only a "fork-type" connection? The swing arm appears to use a casting/forging combo that is connected with welds. I would like to drill and tap into the cast arms just ahead of the welds where the machined eye sections for the axle bolt attaches, but am not sure how far the eye sections protrude into the cast portion of the swingarm. I figure someone may know how far the machined portion protrudes past the welds and into the cast/forged arm if they were unlucky enough to see or have an arm crack open.

Oh, that's what you meant. I don't know the engineering specs but I'd definitely be paranoid about stress cracks forming from something you drilled... But, then again, I'm just rambling. Maybe someone knows.

I also have an '01 f4i w/o lifting spoolers. I recently bought a rear lifter and turned the studs around by inserting the round part from the outside (so that they protrude inward). I then position the lifter studs so that they catch just in front of the weld area at the rear of the swingarm. The weld on the swingarm keeps the lifter from slipping and it works perfect. I would NOT drill any holes into your swingarm or frame.

Thanks guys for getting back to me on this with your suggestions and I will look at seeing if rschultz's idea will work for me. Sorry about the delayed response as I had to replace my modem on the PC. I agree very much with you johnnyquest on the issue with stress cracks, especially on the cast portion of the arm, although I would really like to get a good solid hold on the swingarm when raising the bike. I'll get back to you guys with the results of how we make out with rshultz idea and its applicablity to a f4.
Keepin the clean side up. Spa
