| 1993 F2 will ONLY start in neutral! I just purchased a 1993 CBR600f2. The bike runs mint, but the only issue I am having is that will only start in neutral. Being a new rider, it makes me a little nervous since if i stall out then i have to get the make back in the neutral then back into gear. I don't know if this is something that can be easily fixed, but I can't imagine this is normal and/or safe.
Let me know if I can fix this! Thanks!!! |

| Re: 1993 F2 will ONLY start in neutral! It will start in neutral with it up or down. It will die if it is put into gear with the kick stand down. When trying to start while in gear (kickstand up) the starter does not even make a noise. (it is like the key is not on) |

| Re: 1993 F2 will ONLY start in neutral! yes I am holding the clutch in...well when trying to start in gear...no need when in neutral, b/c it fires right up. it is like there is not electrical connection to the starter once the bike is in gear. |

| Re: 1993 F2 will ONLY start in neutral! is there a little electrical switch in the clutch lever assembly? A clutch switch keeps the bike from starting when the bike is in gear unless the lever is pulled. |

| Re: 1993 F2 will ONLY start in neutral! Since the bike will not start when the clutch is in, does this mean it is off or damaged? How do I check / find it? |

| Re: 1993 F2 will ONLY start in neutral! You disconnect the switch and see if the bike starts normally. If not then you jump the connector (to the bikes harness not to the switch) with a wire and see if it starts. |

| Re: 1993 F2 will ONLY start in neutral! sounds like the little sensor switch - which is located at the kickstand, is faulty.
What happens is the saftey switch works when the kickstand is down - stops any starting unless in neutral. there is really no fix other than replacing it. It connects back to the relay switches and to take off the kickstand, easy job but time consuming. |

| Re: 1993 F2 will ONLY start in neutral! if the stand switch was bad you could still put it in gear with the clutch pulled.
I think... I'm fairly confused at this point. |

| Re: 1993 F2 will ONLY start in neutral! the thing is even if u pull the clutch in and put down the stand it will cut out, its purly safety issue - to stop u riding with the stand down. |

| Re: 1993 F2 will ONLY start in neutral! Correction: Running, in gear, clutched pulled in, if you put the kickstand down, it will kill the motor. Kickstand down, in gear, clutch pulled in, it will not start. |

| Re: 1993 F2 will ONLY start in neutral! yeah the clutch has to be in and stand UP to start in gear.
OK, stand up clutch IN will it start while in gear?
It seems to me if it was the stand switch then once its started in N if you let the clutch out in gear it would shut off. If the stand swtch is bad it shouldnt run no matter what. |

I think... I'm fairly confused at this point. | You are correct, clutch switch is what I say as well. Quote:

That tells me the sidestand switch is fine. The bike knows the position of it. |

| Re: 1993 F2 will ONLY start in neutral! Thank you all sooo much! I am thinking it is the clutch switch for sure!
How (and difficult) is this to replace/repair? Is it a part that should be readily available and where could I find one? I have the service manual, but it just shows where it is located, not how to replace it.
Thanks again! |

| Re: 1993 F2 will ONLY start in neutral! Honda probably just sells the lever as a complete piece. So you will probably have to replace it as a unit.
A second option would be to install a pressure switch. This is required on some aftermarket levers; brake and clutch. |
