Carbs or Fuel Injection?

Hiya All,

Igniting an old arguement....

Rememember:
1) Development on the FI CBR600F's stopped at 2003. This includes the FI bodies
2) The FI CDR6's are more Fuel thirsty for some reason

I just can't stop looking at 2nd hand replacements for my 1996 CBR6!

A 1999 170Kg Carb bike?
or
A 2001 170kg FI Bike???

Cheers
Martin

Re: Carbs or Fuel Injection?

I'd say the FI Marty hands down. Always FI over carbs except maybe drag racing or something. Are you asking because the FI is worse on fuel or you just like the carb ones? Nothing wrong with the older carb ones if you like them because of style or something. For example I couldn't even imagine my old 6 cyl CBX without those beautiful 6 carbs all in a row.

Hiya DZ,

I'm guessing from all angles:
1) Performance - twisty country roads (This mostly admittedly!)
2) Home Maintenance ability - keeping cost down
3) Slow speed throttle repsonse - Early FI was "on/Off" wasn't they?
4) Fuel economy - lastly!

Cheers

THAT's an excellent reason for carbs!

I don't know anything about the fuel economy, but all these other points, FI rules. My first FI bike was the '98 VFR, and my biggest issue was getting used to the on/off effect FI has (there's no lag like you have in carb powered engines). Maintenance is actually less - unless something goes haywire (I do all my own maintenance). Not often as FI systems are very reliable (and a major reason most newer vehicles on the road come standard with FI, cages and bikes).
