How do you look after a FI bike?

Hiya All,

I've never had a FI bike before!

1) Putting her away for the winter.
* OK on Carb bikes you drain the Carbs
* But what do you do for a FI, to stop the FI Jets clogging up over winter?

2) Carb syncronisation.
* Is there a FI version of this? (Vaguely remember reading something about it on the Morgan Carbtunbe web site...)

3) Dealer only servicing?
* Can most of the basic servicing be DIY?

4) Anything else?

Cheers
MArtin

Re: How do you look after a FI bike?

Fuel Stabilizer would help the fuel from going bad - But other than that I don't believe there is anything else you can do regarding the fuel.

Deal only servicing is BS. I do my own (apart from valve adjustments) and I don't see why I should pay someone else to do the job I can. Ok It might take a little more time, but who cares?

Deff get a Haynes manual or similar.

Good Luck

Found something RE:Maintenance on FI CBR6's

Morgan Carbtune - carburetor synchronizer for balancing motorcycle carbs

Q. My bike has fuel injection. Do I have to balance them?
Yes. You have to sync the throttle bodies in just the same way as you do with carburettors.

Hey Marty,

a FI bike is no different to a carb bike in respect to maintenance, air filter, oil filter, plugs, and oil, can all be done by yourself exactly the same as a carb bike.

you not talking about storing the bike for 10 years, honestly i wouldn't worry about the fuel clogging up, if you are really worried, i would suggest firing up the bike every couple of months...

Yes. You have to sync the throttle bodies in just the same way as you do with carburettors.
unless you are removing the throttle bodies, you wont need to adjust them.
if you are removing them, it's as simple as looking into the throttle bodies and making sure they all open, and more importantly shut at exactly the same time, thats it.

Not true. It is not hard to adjust them at all; just need the right tools.

Ian,
saying "Not true. It is not hard to adjust them at all; just need the right tools." really is no use to anyone.
since Marty has asked a question, and you deem an answer to be incorrect, don't you think it would be fitting to provide an alternate answer or solution to the problem?

Re: How do you look after a FI bike?

Some throttle bodies you do "sync" with a vacuum gauge; just like you do on carbs. The TB's have the nipple, one TB has no adjustments while the others do.

Re: How do you look after a FI bike?

I've seen it listed both ways in service manuals and maintenance schedules. I depends on the manufacturer.

Re: How do you look after a FI bike?

oh ok, it seems we are on about the same thing then,
anyways Marty the F4i manual states:
"the throttle body is pre-set, do not loosen or tighten the white painted bolts or screws on the throttle body"

so basically they are saying you can remove the entire throttle body, but do not adjust the valves.

The F3 service manual states inspect carb sync every 8K, the F4i manual states nothing to do with TB inspection or adjustment or balance or sync, so it's not deemed part of maintenance.

Re: How do you look after a FI bike?

People still balace/sync the TB's on the F4i though. Right or wrong; being able to adjust them is there.
