RE:Can you put the Scottoiler reseviour in a place that gets all covered in cack?

Hiya All,

RE:Can you put the Scottoiler reseviour in a place that gets all covered in cack?

I've had a look around my 1996 CBR600FT for a place to put the Scottoiler. (My CBr is one of those ones where it is all covered in Fairing, and the seat dosen't come off with a key, you need to take the side panels off, then spanner off the seat bolts! I can't do that every week, to check the scottoiler level - and if I don't check regularyly, i bet I'll forget!)

The only place I can see to put the scottoiler, is along the steel frame, under the rear wheel arch. However that part of the frame is (Just found out last night) Covered in Cack! Keep forgetting to wash under the fairing.

Couple of questions:
1. Can you put the Scottoiler reseviour in a place that gets all covered in cack?
2. If I put electrical tape over the "Refill" hole - is that enough to stop dirt getting into the system, when I eventually have to refill? (Ie I'll take off the tape, fill up, then put some more on?)
3. Are there any other problems with putting the scottoiler there?
4. Am I better off just getting a "touring" Scottoiler tank - which fits behind the reg plate - or is that overkill, and just really heavy?

Hope you can Advise!

Cheers
Martin

Hiya All,

RE:Scottoiler - can I put in along the "Grab handle" on the LHS Pedal rest?

I've just had a brain wave! For my 1996 FT - Can I put the scottoiler behind that Grab handle" on the LHS Pedal rest? Hope you can advise!

Cheers

as long as it tilts slightly forward......

.... you can put it anywhere...

will post some piccy's of ours if you like... but it can be mounted anything from vertical to nearly horizontal, it's really a case of where you wanna put it

yes... it'll work even if cacky

& there should be a rubber bung with a breather that fits into the little hole

Hiya Side show,

Some pictures would be fab.

I'm just scratching my head about the best place to out the reseviour on the FT! in view would be good, but not if it can get knocked easily, or gets completely covered in cack all the time.

Cheers

Re: Scottoiler - can I put in along the "Grab handle" on the LHS Pedal rest?

Here you go marty
I've always mounted them the same basic way...

The oiler unit under seat or behind side panel
On my Duke it just hung from the sub frame
on the blade its behind RH side panel and accesed from pillion seat

The feed I always run behind frame to swing arm
on most I've run it under swingarm.. altho the duke was even easier.. it runs along breakline chanel in hugger

The breather I always tie to the frame

the Vacuum line i run along the wireing harness
All were spliced into the petrol tap vacuum line or onto the carb manifold..

on both mine and Loopys they are totally hidden.. & the only problem I've found is on the Duke (becouse it right above the exhaust it gets warm.. the oil thins.. so I have had to set it alot lower than on the blade)
