APE Manual CCT advice?

Ok, so I'm most likely going to order an APE Manual Cam Chain Tensioner soon to get rid of the rattle that the Automatic is causing.

I've found a few how-to's on 600rr, but I'm wondering if it's the same. I've seen where some say removal of valve cover is necessary, and some say it's not.

Is it "necessary" for the removal/install of the new CCT or for the "proper" chain tensioning?

Thanks for your help.

After this part comes in I'll be ready to dive into it and figure it out, I'm sure. Also going to be doing some valve adjustments (any extra help with this would be nice), carb cleaning, new K&N air filter, oil change, the works. My 96 will be like new once again.

Re: APE Manual CCT advice?

Also, anyone know a reputable place to purchase the CCT itself, wether I get the manual APE,comparable, or an OEM Automatic replacement.

Again, thanks.

Re: APE Manual CCT advice?

Number 5 is what you're looking for.

I've heard that a lot of people take the bolt out of the middle of the stock tensioner and get a longer one, with a matching nut, and you've got yourself basically the same thing as the APE tensioner.

If you're tensioner is making noises, remove the center bolt on the tensioner, insert a small flat head screw driver and tighten the plunger (not sure how tight is too tight). Then thread the nut all the way on the new, longer, bolt and screw the bolt into the center hole on the tensioner until it's tight, then use the nut to lock the bolt so it cant back itself out.

I haven't done this myself but have read in quite a few places that people do it with no problem. When my CCT starts making noises this is what i'll do.

Good Luck
