F3 needs a little work

My husband has an F3 that he laid down about a year ago that he has been slowly fixing. He just got deployed to Afghanistan so as a suprise i wanted to have it ready for him when he gets back. It runs and I can still ride it, just needs a few more perfarmance improvements and definite body work. Any suggestions on how to make it the most beautiful thing he's ever seen and ridden? Thanks

Re: F3 needs a little work

How come my wife didnt do this for me???? Sounds like your a keeper. I'd get a set of a new set of fairings for the bike (you can put them on it's very easy just take your time if its your first time), a new wind screen, bar ends, frame sliders and new tires if he needs them. The wind screen, bars ends and frame sliders and going to be the cheapest, seach e-bay or the like. The fairings are going to be a bit pricey but you get what you pay for, the e-bay ones tend to be hard to fit, if your going to put them on I'd say go with OEM (Dealer) ones. The bike should look mint after that, if you dont want to do the work just save up the money for him to do it. Just knowing that you where thinking about him will be enough.

Re: F3 needs a little work

haha, i am talking about the bike, thank you very much!!

Any specific type of sliders that would be the best for this model? and as far as fairings go, i think i can salvage about half of them but not sure if i should replace them all or not.

Re: F3 needs a little work

The best kind of sliders is a topic of debate, just dont get the extra long ones and you'll be ok. Do a e-bay search and I'd make my choice according to price. My bike got low sided, the bar ends and frame sliders took the worst only a few scratches on the upper and I had cheep ones on. I assume you ride, so an easy way to price what you need is ride it to the dealer and get a quote. Also so you can ensure the right color code ect is orderd. A nice after market wind screen (if you dont have one) will really set the bike off, colored bar ends to match are nice little details. If you really want to get him worked up clean and lube his chain hehe.

Re: F3 needs a little work

OEM replica's acceptable? here's what i found

Maier Fairing Side CBR600F3 95-98 - Chaparral Motorsports

the nearest dealership isn't that close and with 3 kids i dont get to ride very often so internet is going to be my best option right now

Re: F3 needs a little work

Aftermarket fairings are okay but it's a real pain in the ass to get them to fit properly. They also have to be painted (they come primed). With some you even have to drill your own mounting holes! OEM fairing are BEST (fit & finish) but they are VERY expensive.

Powder coating is GREAT, but I think it only works on conductive parts like metal, (i.e. not usable for the plastic body work).

Re: F3 needs a little work

Correction: If you were do the frame, you would have to remove ALL the parts from the frame first.
