New guy wanting to put an f3 on the track

Hi,
I have a stock 1998 f3 that I have been riding for a few years. I am planning for this to be the f3's last year on the road. I want to get a new 600, thinking a daytona 675 (anyone wants to talk me out of it go ahead ), and getting the f3 ready for some track days next year.

I have a good amount of riding experience on the road and dirt but I have never done anything at the track. So any advice you folks could point me towards would be greatly appreciated.

I have checked out the f2 race bike thread here: 1992 CBR 600 F2 Race Bike Build and Discussion and gotten some good info, but I think that is too advanced for me. I am not looking to jump in and compete with anyone, I just want to race around in a safe(ish) location, and prep my machine so it isn't a deathtrap.

Thanks

I haven't heard anything but bad regarding the Daytona 675 - Have a read of the reviews to see if there was any weak spots that need addressing. (I nearly bought the Special Edition (Gun metal grey with the gold wheels/forks) a few years back)

Why not see if anywhere local is holding a "track day" - maybe even book yourself into an amateur session to try and get a feel of a track experience before your thrown into the deep end.

Btw, a few words of advice... Before you start looking into engine mods, make sure your suspension is all set up correctly - It would help a lot.

Thats definitally what I want to do, but I am just looking for the basic stuff to get on the track safely. I am thinking tires, secure my oil filter and whatnot, and suspension. But when I read about suspension alot of people are talking about drastic measures like getting a new fork setup, I would like to hold off on the high end stuff until I get my feet wet.

Regarding the daytona: It's so hard to trust reviews of motorcycles in general because people have such brand loyalty, most of the people who bought one say it's the best bike ever, most people who have other bikes just reccomend their own. But I am still doing my research and checking around before I get my next street bike.

How about joining a Daytona specific forum? Might enable you to get a mixed view (I hope)?
