| 1999 Honda CBR600 F4 Hey guys,
I'm looking at a 1999 Honda CBR600 F4. The bike is spotless and has a little over 6k miles. Only mods to the bike is a 2 Brothers pipe. Hasn't been riden in over a year. I went to test drive it and it had really old fuel in it so it didn't run real good. The owner took the carb's off and cleaned them. The bike seems to run good now. Just curious, where is the rev. limiter at? I've heard you really have to rev. this bike! All I'm really going to be doing is riding it back and forth to work a couple days a week but also want to have a little fun too. While test driving it today it seemed to be hitting the rev. limited a little over 9k RPM"s in second and third gear... Is this normal?
Also, any pro's or cons on this bike are appreciated.
Thanks |

| Re: 1999 Honda CBR600 F4 It should go well above 9K. The rev limiter is set for 14.5 or 15K. It has been a few years since i still had mine but it went into the red on the stock tack. I continually rode my up to 12K just daily Riding.
The F4 suprised me everytime becuase the bike would wake up and have so much power at high rpm. It was a sleeper because I no troubles keeping up with my friends on their new $8K gixxers with my old $3K used bumblebee bike.
wow i miss that bike now... thanks |

| Re: 1999 Honda CBR600 F4 No it's not normal, the F4 carbed version red line starts at over 13,000 RPM - don't know when the rev limiter kicks in - if they have one.
If it was old fuel why take the carbs off and clean them?? a tank drain and re-fuel is all that would have been needed.
The power band doesn't kick in till 6,000 RPM.
If it's "limited" at 9,000 RPM then it is a restricted bike for some reason or there is something wrong with it. Don't buy it unless you take someone with you who is a bike mechanic. |

Unless she's running quick as lightening for that mileage......run away from it, and quickly !!!

| Re: 1999 Honda CBR600 F4 There is a rev limiter on the F4... it wont go to 20K. It stops reving near the redline at 15K on the tach.
regardless a 9k max has something wrong with it. |

| Re: 1999 Honda CBR600 F4 I would agree that there is something wrong with it! I take my F4 on a consistent basis up into to 14+ range! Quite possibly the old fuel has bunged something up, whether its a fuel screen, filter, carbs, plugs... but you should definitely have it looked at first! |

| Re: 1999 Honda CBR600 F4 I have a CBR600F4 and due to UK licensing laws it has to be restricted to 33bhp (which is not alot but helps me get used to the bike before it release the fury)
My bike will top out at about 9k revs whereas before hand it would go to at least 14-15k revs. I would say that the bike has been restricted. when you ride it you should be able to tell if it is restricted as it makes a massive difference. If it is restricted then you will get little more than 100mph out of it. The 1999 model is restricted in two places:
1) in the inlet of the carbs there are some restricting washers
2) in the sliders at the top of the carbs which should slice all the way open but wont if it is restricted.
Ask the guy if its restricted and if he says no then keep well clear of it because is has some major problems otherwise!!! |
